Takashi is rocking the mic, addressing the crowd.

Alright, you beat him...there's no call to rub salt in the wound by taunting. :-(

Takashi's grandma (I guess?) received her own lengthy interview.

They're replaying the entire 5th. (or, what there was of it)

Japanese is about as comprehensible to me as James Toney is to any English speaker.

(which is to say every once in a while some word or another will ring a faint bell)

In the co-feature, Liborio Solis beat Kohei Kono by majority decision to unify the interim and regular versions of the WBA super flyweight title.

Both men were down. (Solis in the 2nd and Kono in the 8th).

I would've liked to see that, but it was during my commute.

I was kinda hoping Kono could milk his Cinderella Man zero to hero yarn for at least a brief reign, making easy voluntary defenses at home until a genuine world-class operator came to relieve him of the sash. :sad2

You would think a guy with a 14-3 record would be safe enough to fly in for just such a thing, but Solis' off-putting W-L ratio belies a decent fighter on a nice run now (and whose blemishes are respectable, upon inspection).

Don't quite know if I'd call it that.

Kono is fun and brave, but limited and really caps off at Japanese domestic level. He caught the right guy at the right time and fought the right way to nab an unlikely world title from Singwancha. He was a sitting duck paper champ, so it's not exactly a major upset for someone who didn't exactly come out of thin air (Solis already held the interim version of the WBA title Kono took from Singwancha) to beat him in a close one.

I did think Kono would hot-potato the belt in not too long to a legit top 15 guy, but hoped for his sake he could squeeze in a couple of defenses against guys on Solis' level first.
