Let nobody be foolish enough to think that Oscar Bonavena didn't hit hard...he needed a great amount of leverage to get his shots off, and that might explain his fights that went the distance. Oscar was clumsy for sure but he was strong as an ox (and almost as smart as one)...and he was awkwardly clever, somewhat like Gene Fullmer was..they both had an alternate "boxing style" that they used on slugger type opponents, like George Chuvalo for Oscar and Carmine Basilio for Fullmer.
yes and foreman being "slow like hell" i am pretty sure that he was faster than rocky on his feet and he was around 40 pounds heavier
That in the old days there were 100's of would be champions, and today were lucky to have one worthy champion per division. The truth is that we have always had one or two really great guys per division and a bunch of solid guys behind them. Yes there are expetions such as the 70's welterweights and heavyweights, but hhose are expetions not the rule.
Joe Frazier / Marcianp 1. Marciano took a clean shot by Joe Louis on the chin, kept coming. 2. Rocky was known to stick his chin out in the amateurs and let the other fighter hit it. Foreman / Liston "The only man I ever ran from in the ring was Sonny Liston" - George Foreman Coming from a man who took tremendous punishment, No wonder he could being Liston sparring partner for years
People get too hung up on comments boxres make about their heros. Foreman would have crushed Liston. DeLaHoya said that Gatti hit him teh hardest. Come on man!
