I agree with you, P. I guess comparatively UK PPV shows are a heck of a lot cheaper than the US shows, but you know as well as me there are ways to view fights without paying (I DON'T KNOW ANY OF THESE WAYS, MIND). Boxnation has it right, for me. I pay my tenner each month and get to see Mayweather live, for example, I'm not complaining. On top of this you get a lot of US broadcasts and all you pay is your ten spot. I stopped paying for Sky in 2007 after the Hatton-Mayweather fight, I don't agree with Rupert Murdoch's nation-hopping right-wing politics, he's a sleazy ball bag, I won't give that **** a cent of mine. As for Sky PPV? Not a chance....:good
PPV has been slowly killing boxing since the eighties, a sports popularity is only measured by it accesabilety for the fans. Can you imagine paying for the champions league final? World darts final? Wimbledon? But it's fine for boxing, it's mostly down to greed.
Still wondering whether to pay for this fight. For some reason it doesn't grab me,would rather have seen Froch fight Stevenson.I think we know what were gonna get,a close hard fight with probably a different winner.Would definitely not pay 55quid,though.Going to the pubs a different ball game.Would go early to get a decent seat and spend more than the PPV price while waiting, not be able to focus and no way go home straight away when its done.Expensive, but probably not as much as in a Tuborg house in Denmark.
Yes,would hope Froch gave him a whipping for one thing. But think Stevensons a good enough fighter to make it very competitive. Regarding the pub thing, wonder if 2 German sides on the same night will attract a lot of punters and swamp the boxing.Cant see many English places having Froch on,guess Denmark might be different with Kessler being such a favourite.
Sadly the sport has no competative architecture so there really is no reason to watch so promoters cash in on the few occassions they put together a competative fight or a match up with high profile fighters i.e. Haye vs Harrison. The lack of any regulation is the root to this sport falling apart. It wasn't so bad when there was the NBA or WBC and WBA and boxers followed them (while also needing to get paid thus fighting the best). The creation of more orgs, becoming further corrupt and them being responsible to no one has seen the sport become a joke.
That is madness. Boxing isn't perfect but Froch vs Kessler II is one of the legit fights on paper and in practice.
eddie hearn said when the fight got made it would have a big/good undercard, so what happened? the undercard is barely acceptable. soon as the tickets sold so fast i knew they wouldnt bother too much about it. im going and cant wait for the main event but im dissapointed with the rest, and im a george groves fan.
The lack of terrestrial TV is a much bigger issue than PPV is. There has never been more money in boxing and the richest athlete in the world is a boxer, so whilst you may disagree with PPV, I don't think it's the cancer on boxing people think it is. It brings massive amounts of money in to the sport, which is a good thing. I think PPV should always be a luxury though. I support it but only if these events are sporadic rather than regular.
I realise Im in the minority, but the fact is Id have no hesitation in paying for a Stevenson fight and am thinking about Kessler.Yes,it'll be good.Pretty sure it'll be close. But we know what were getting and with the other one theres a bit of the whats going to happen?Id be willing to bet Froch wins a close one,but the odds won't be good enough,so I won't.SKY have been hyping this up to the rafters as a super fight since its been made and IMO its not.Theyre both excellent fighters but Andre Ward would have to retire for it to mean anything.Still madness?
Cant remember when the first PPV fight was,but I probably paid for it.And apart from when working away or on holiday Ive watched every one.So its not to save 15 quid,Im not a tight arse.I watch a bit of football but the premier league is full of foreign players, and Im a bit old fashioned though far from a racist. So boxing is my main thing. What gets me is whats so special about this fight, other than Carls chance for revenge?I thought wed gone past pay per view on top of the SKY fee,but obviously not.Yes,I would have preferred Stevenson, but thats just me.Dont you think it would have been any good?
