People claim to be a fan, but most are only a fan of the fighting and not the science. Sorry to say, but the sport is filled with more fighters then boxers, which is why when a boxer comes along and does just that. Part time fans get disgusted, because boxing is something that's not accepted in there psyche. People claim Floyd was boring, Saturday night, because he did something that Guerrero could not, and that was box. While Guerrero was fighting Floyd was boxing. My point is, every once in awhile, the sport will produce a being who can actually produce the art of what it means to box. When this happens don't get mad. After all Boxing is the name of the game.
Most Mexicans and casual fans don't like boxing. Their ideal sport would be MMA brawling stand up without the ground game.
I respect the skill and execution of pure boxers, but end of the day, without 'fighters' you have no sport, without knockouts you hav no sport, without fighters you have no one for pure boxers to look good against. Com forward fighters are more important to the sport in the sense that without them, there would be no engagement, and no more fights
Really? Salvador Sanchez and Juan Manuel Marquez were/are stand up brawlers? What exactly is "boxing"? Is it staying on the outside, using footwork, etc?
Interesting topic. To the casual fan, they want fighters like Prime Tyson who knock guys out within the 1st round or 2. Can't begin to count how many PPV fights I purchased in the late 80's just to see 90 seconds of Tyson fighting (I stopped getting his PPV's after Alex Stewart, it just wasn't wortht he money anymore.) Anybody that really follows boxing knows how great this guy is. I would've loved to seen him stay at 140 because he has TRUE knockout power at that weight. He's not a big WW at all so to expect him to knock guys out on a consistent basis is a bit far fetched. He probably could though from aggregation of punches throughout the fight, but he doesn't hold one punch KO power in the WW division or JMW. Him fighting at such higher weight classes and dominating the opposition the way he has is nothing short of incredible. If he goes up and takes out Martinez at MW, which at this point is not as far fetched as it once seemed, I'd have no problem putting him in my top 12-15 of all time.
Robert can box...he was just at a major disadvantage against a better boxer who was facing a very good fighter who was moving up in weight. Floyd boxed against Miguel too...but that fight was exciting because Miguel was a bigger opponent and Floyd chose to BOX more...rather than use his physical attributes to stay out of harms way and pot shot from a safe distance. With Rob....Floyd used a lot of craft to frustrate him and score points. He held Robert and positioned him much of the fight...so basically Floyd controlled the fight by employing his game plan more effectively. I enjoyed the fight...it wasn't too exciting but he showed flashes of brilliance like he normally does. I was just hoping he would box more and move less. He can stay in the pocket and use his superior speed and athleticism to beat Robert, but he decided to fight in his usual fashion. Maybe he's saving himself for the rest of the fights he has lined up. It was a decent win for Floyd and he did exactly what was expected against Robert.
Floyd wasn't boring, Guerrero was. My only criticism for Floyd's performance was his lack of combination punching, which he has shown more of in recent bouts. Instead, he reverted back to his exclusive pot-shoting identity which does leave a lot to be desired, imo.
It's also not called knockout, but that what the fans what to see. Bottom line if you fight a over matched opponent you should at LEAST TRY TO HURT OR FINISH, that did not happen Saturday night.
PBF was turning it up on Guerrero, landing his right hand at will until he hurt it. If he didn't hurt his hand he most likely would have stopped Guerrero.:deal

I don't like it neither, I much prefer Rigo's style who hardly cliinched at all against a relatively larger opponent in Donaire. Floyd is 36 though. That pot-shotting conserves energy and is the reason his ring wear, despite being in so many decisions, is much less than say Morales.
There were a few people in the media who even said it was a boring fight. I was slamming my face into my keyboard in disgust that these people write about and claim to be knowledgeable about Boxing.
