Haye didn't do enough to take the man's paper title, that's my view. It was a close fight, but all Haye did was back pedal and throw single shots. I always favour the champion who is looking to engage even if strictly speaking he landed less. It's professional boxing after all, not the ABA's. Watt agreed. :yep And Haye, at least Pianeta tried to have a fight with Wlad, unlike you or your toe.
I think Watt was too pre-occupied with what he believed were the standard judging criteria in Germany. I understand that, considering it's happened to many a fighter down the years, where they've won most of the rounds and gone home empty handed. He just went a bit too far and sounded like a muppet.
Watt is a joke of a commentator. Haye didn't do enough even though he was the only fighter landing punches? The back pedaling is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if you fight on the front foot, back foot, in the center of the ring, in the corner. Only punches landed and quality of punches should matter. That's the beauty of the sport and why there are so many different styles. Otherwise why not everyone become a walk forward volume puncher knowing they'll get rewarded just for being aggressive? The fact that Valuev had a title is also irrelevant. You score the fight and nothing else. You score it as you see it. If you go through that fight round by round, I guarantee you won't be able to justify your scores. The ones who scored it to Haye will be able to say something like "Haye won that round 'cause he landed a clean right hand at the 2.30 min mark and he landed another at 2.50. The ones who scored it to Valuev have nothing to justify it and are left with BS reasoning and will not be able to pinpoint the exact moments Valuev won the round. If you ask why do you give that round to Valuev? "he was trying to force the pace", but he only hit thin air. he never landed anything, unlike Haye. "Yeah but Haye was back pedaling" But he still landed while back pedaling "yeah but IMO it wasn't enough to take the title from the man" Joke reasoning. It wasn't close at all. Dirrell/Froch was close, as was Chilemba/Bellew, this was one sided.
Haye fought a smart tactical fight, raiding tactics to steal a win. It worked. There's no argument for scoring it to Valuev. Other fights where you've had a clear aggressor and clear retreator there can be an argument, if they appear to land a similar number of effective shots - Hagler vs Leonard being a case in point. Hagler was the aggressor, he probably landed the more effective punches, but I'd wager that he landed fewer than Leonard and his punches weren't as ''loud'' as Ray's were. And he was a distant 2nd in the ''ring generalship'' stakes - whatever that means. To me, you just go on who appears to be the more effective person in that round. The fact that one of them might be the general or might not be is irrelevant to me. Otherwise you'd have scored Marquez vs Pacquiao I, II wide to Marquez (I actually did the 3rd fight but anyway....) At times he played Pacquiao like a string puppet, but was still stuck on his arse four times and hurt badly several times in the first two fights in particular.
It was a clever fight by Haye, tangling on the inside with the big oaf was a fools game as like it or not the sheer size of a 320lb man makes him a danger. Haye made it obvious by the rules of boxing that he was winning, FACT
how long has it been since theres been a US heavyweight champ? i like the way this thread title is loaded, is he a moron or bitter? so this is really a thread for hayters only (surely thats cleverer than calling him david gaye) surely its possible to respect a boxer who isnt the GOAT. theres zero respect between pac and floyd fans but are clearly outstanding fighters.. anyone who steps int he ring deserves respect from the armchair warriors.. less hayte more love people
This is it Once he was actually in the ring with Wlad he was not thinking about how can I win this? what risks can I take? what plants can I pull to counter? All he could think about was survival and how to get through the 12 rounds without taking one almighty beating:rofl
Once Haye got into a ring with Vlad he turned coward. He ran, held, fell down on the canvas, held Vlad's legs, etc., Haye was a complete disgrace. Haye had broken at least one signed contract with Vlad and an implied contract with Vitali. I think Haye should fight Wilder right now..............
not true Haye gave dropped his hands repeatedly, trying to get Wlad to do more than throw 1 jab, Wlad would not and as soon as haye looked like throwing a punch wlad would leap backwards as though he were disarming a nuclear bomb When has Haye ever been some come forward volume puncher? He always fights on the back foot with minimal punch output, that's how he wins most of his fight Haye fought his usual style, the way he always fights, what did haye do differently in other fights that he won vs this one? nothing, it was the same haye. you can blame him for being stupid and not bringing anything new, but to say he was a coward and fought scared? you reaching man, he fought his usual fight the opponent just had his number stylistically
Yes, Wlad outclassed him. But what did Haye do in attempts to ADJUST to Wlad's style ? He didn't even try to adjust, he just concentrated on defensive caution. Lesser fighters in similar circumstances have gone for broke and taken risks when plan A fails. Some have scored great victories that way, other have been KO'd. Few have fought so tamely and unaggressively after mouthing off so loudly, and no one but Haye has then used a hurt pinkie toe as an excuse for the whole defeat. To be fair to Haye maybe he just doesn't have the ability and was so thoroughly outclassed. It is what it is. Wlad's so much better than Haye that it was bound to be a boring fight. :good
What's this actually based on? Just about beating Valuev like Chagaev, Holyfield, Donald and Ruiz did before him?
