People are pumping the Mercer win now? Mercer was a good fighter out of the 90's but he was 41 years old and gone when Wlad got to him. McCline was a contender but shortly after was never more than a decent journeyman.
McCline was a good fighter. It is true that he become worse after the Wladimir fight. But this happens very often. Once a fighter gets beaten like McCline was it can be that he cant recover. McCline was good when he fought Wladimir. He did better than many other (higher ranked) fighters.
Mercer was past it, but he was still a dangerous opponent and tough as old boot leather. Wlad destroyed him in a very impressive one sided display. It's that which I consider to be significant. McCline didn't turn out to be all that, but you can't know that at the time. He was a big, powerful contender whom Wlad beat down with relative ease. In both cases Wlad did what he was supposed to, and you can't ask for much more than that.
At first I thought "Damn, this guy Wladimir is catching too much heat on these boards; just look at all these hatters!" but then I took a closer look and realized it's the same few asswipes making all this noise over and over, them plus a few of their alts. Well then ****em, they ain't ever going to cut their bullcrap but that doesn't mean anyone should care.
Ali was more hated than Wlad when he was fighting. At this time internet did not exist. I can imagine all the hater post if they had the opportunity of the internet.
I think people are missing the point, Wlads style is so mindnumbingly boring and ultra ultra cautious that his fights are actively avoided by everyone except his core fans. The manufactured situation between him and Vitali has killed any interest in the HW division. We now have HW World Title fights taking place that even boxing fans don't know about because they're so low key and ignored by the media.
