Predict the opponent Floyd fights next

Mayweather insists he'll return in September, and he has not relinquished his JMW belt. That would suggest he'll be fighting at JMW. WW is his optimal division, and I'm guessing he'll hang on to his WBC belt. That would mean that if he fights at JMW this September, then he won't fight at JMW again until the following September, if at all.

All of this points to one opponent and one opponent only in September; Saul Alvarez.

Alexander, Canelo, Khan in that order

 

He'd fight Devon Alexander before he would Maidana.

 

My personal opinion is that he will fight Danny Garcia next, after him I believe his team will look to make Mayweather Berto providing Berto doesnt lose in between.

The Mayweather Berto fight will happen at some point, too many people stand too much money from that fight, Berto will do a job on Soto Karass, if he fights again before Mayweather or near to Mayweather and wins, they will make the fight. Its a no brainer.

 

Devon Alexander will lose his next fight. Maidana will win when he fights Lopez.

Berto? Who is going to buy that one?

 

Thats very very optimistic, Floyd will / has walked away from world title's in the past without losing a wink of sleep, he doesn't need titles, the marketing work is done, he just picks an opponent, wins, picks up his cheque.

Saul Alvarez is probably the biggest threat to Floyd Mayweather Jr since Jose Luis Castillo, which is why we wont see the fight :deal

 

Alexander is fighting Lee Purdy. I doubt he loses that fight.

 

You could say that about any one of Floyds last 5 fights, all they have to do is build Berto in the press and keep him out of harms way, and the fight will get made.

Guys he ain't fighting Birdo, unless he strings up 3 wins against top opposition including Guerrero.

 

Floyd is a promoter now. He needs to collect these belts if he wants to stay in the good graces of the orgs. If he's in their good graces, he can get more opportunities for his fighters. All signs point to him defending his JMW title in his next fight. We'll see what actually happens.

 

1. Saul Alvarez. Ther's going to be pressure to out do Pacquiao who fights Rios in November at the box office/ppv. The main reason the fight won't happen is if Alvarez prices himself out. I think there is a 25% chance he will. He seemes to understand his own star power, and his advisers may want him to wait and gain more experance. We might see a Alvarez/Trout rematch and Alvarez/Cotto before we see Mayweather/Alvarez in 2014.

2. Devon Alexander. First he has to beat Lee Purdy in two weeks. He's the IBF welterweight champion. He's been in the ring with a lot of very good boxers losing only once.

3. The winner of of Lamont Peterson/Lucas Martin Matthysse. If Purdy beats Alexander.

 

I think Khan gives him an easy fight and is a guy who can sell some tickets. Floyd might even man up and do what a true World Champion does and go fight him in Europe where they could probably sell out a soccer stadium.
