Guerrero was the wrong opponent and they waited too long to start the media blitz. Guerrero-Mayweather does much better on HBO. Better production team.
The fight was a blatant mismatch. I was more interested in the under cards. But I'm a boxing fan, so that is to be expected. I went to the movies and the theater was a little less than half full, but still pretty well attended. No way I would pay $60 for that card, but considering I really wanted to see the undercards $18 was perfectly fair.
So they are banking on that fight being one of the highest grossing PPV events ever to even make a profit? Are you kidding me?
Floyd does have an opt out clause that would end his deal with SHO/CBS, but he has an enormous guarantee, so I doubt he'd go back to HBO.
This is good news. First of all i'm sure it did decent numbers (800k guess) so it's not an embarrassment but at the same time it's not worth Showtime's investment in this deal unless they are big fights. This should hopefully rule out Alexander/Khan easy paydays for Floyd.
I think this is good news. Now the hegemony's who put these fights together will know that their flushing money down the drain if they try to sell us garbage. At this point there are only 2 or three guys at WW who Floyd can sell a pay per view with. A JMW there are maybe 2 or 3 guys there too. Message to shotime and TMT: if you want our money give us something we want in return. Thanks.
Well I think this could be good for boxing fans. Now Floyd will have to get juicier fights. Not saying Guerrero was a bad fight but definitely not the best. Pac Canelo Khan Would all generate big money
I wonder how much say Showtime even has in his opponents? Tzhey would have had to give up a ton of leverage at the bargaining table to even get him to jump ships. Mayweather is known for his loyalty.
