Not easy to pick a winner. Dempsey was fast with his left hook, but the right uppercut of Lewis would be a danger.
Dempsey by Ko 3 perhaps. I think to belive Dempsey would duck that long jab of Lewis, and roll with the uppercut that could follow(Like Lewis did vs Tyson) Tyson pass his prime did win round 1 vs Lewis. I think a in prime Dempsey would have hurt Lewis when he landed.
Lewis wasn't exactly in his prime at 36 either though. And the telling blows during that rounds (early uppercuts) were landed by Lennox, as Tyson complained about being hurt and never really showed the same kind of aggression, something Tua can talk about as well.
Dempsey mid round TKO. Dempsey is arguably the most complete offensive machine the heavyweight division has ever produced. He can box or punch as the situation requires and has extreme mobility. I think that if Hollyfield could give Lewis a competitive fight then Dempsey would likley bring too many tools to the table.
In all fairness your opinion is fine, but you really can't base the outcome by comparing what Holyfield did against him. Otherwise, we could do the same thing and say, well if Firpo knocked Dempsey out of the ring, then imagine Lewis would do to him.
Lewis by mashing. No 188 pound brawler would beat someone with lewis's arsenal of size, power and jab.
...Lewis wasn't of those oversized Heavingweights with rolls of fat on his waist. He wasn't Carl Morris or Jess Willard. He was huge and powerful and had decent speed. His chin was good enough for him to last long enough to stop Dempsey. That's about all there is. Too big, too dangerous. Dempsey was a cruiser.
I think this pretty much sums it up. In simple terms, Dempsey was a great fighter. Lewis was a great big fighter. That's really all there is to it.
Good to see some knowledgeable posters don't think they have to go for the old timers to make it appear like they know more. :bbb
Its not like I am picking Lewis on his worst night here and holding it up as an example of hoe Dempsey could beat him. I am taking him in arguably his career best win. Now Hollyfield was good at everything but great at nothing in particular. Dempsey was good at everything and great at most of them. Therfore I think he would bring a whole new box of tricks for Lewis to solve.
