Yea, but GBP will be coming back to HBO with no leverage. That would actually be great, if all promoters were on the same level with the network, no sweetheart deals. The alternative is, they may to reduce their stable, and some of these guys get picked up by B level promoters like LDB, Goossen, who all of a sudden have all these premium dates on HBO but not enough HBO level fighters to fill them with
As long as Showtime and GDP didn't take a complete bath on this promotion (and I don't think they would be that far under break-even, in any event) then I don't think they'll be that concerned. This was their first foray in PPV in a while, and they did about as well as they could with the main event match-up that they had. A more attractive match-up will likely result in greater buys. Moreover, and this is a point that some forget, this PPV gave guys like LSC and Mares with some additional exposure, which may well result in increased ratings/ revenue the next time they fight on a televised card. In the long term, I think they stand a good chance of making back whatever money they might have lost.
Not if they cannot compel Floyd to take a more appealing opponent next time around, it's only gonna get worse. Though I'm sure he'd rather not run them into the ground, just because it's easy money for him.
Didn't buy. Didn't watch it. Saw parts later on. It was too predictable for me to spend money on them. It went just like I knew it was going to go.
Show me where he took the test for that fight in fact show me where California reported his test to come back clean after that fight...
Yep, I think that there will be some fallout with smaller promoters picking up guys. I also think that we are going to see fighters sign shorter contracts and move between TR/GBP depending on where the current strength of each company's stable at that weight class is.
Whats up with you mentioning a Cotto re-match? Thats bull**** baby!! Cotto got owned by Trout! Game over for him at the Elite level... Read em and weep son! :good
700K buys doesn't equal $42 million. The cable and satellite provider (i.e. Comcast, Direct TV etc) take a 50% cut out of every PPV buy. So...if you sell a PPV for $60, $30 of it automatically goes to the provider. So Showtimes take on a 700K PPV at $60 a buy = around $21 million which puts Showtime in the hole big time because they are giving Floyd a guaranteed $32 million
