Gary Russell jr's coming out party against Mares!

I would love to see this fight but I doubt it would happen.

 

Why?

I think it's very likely to happen. Russell has said he wanted the winner of Mares-Ponce(on the hype site).

Not too many options at GB.

 

Whoa hold your horses. Want to see GR become a champ, but lets not forget Mares has been around the block Russell still a spring chicken compared Mares in the pros. The PDL Mares beat a rebuilt, better version than Juanma beat and a version that arguably beat Broner and gave Gamboa hell. I say let Gary face PDL before Mares. Gary has to earn his way. Mares would be a far step up, maybe too much right now. If he shines vs PDL he's ready for Mares. Other than that gtfo with that ****!

 

Russell Jr hasn't done anything to earn a shot at Mares beat someone in the top 10 atleast then we can talk. BTW I'm a fan of both.

 

If Russell is not given a shot, all well and good.

But if he(Russell) turns down a shot...won't look good(after the way he has been talking).

 

Mares gets all the props in the world from me. He has proven that he is a versatile warrior with heart of a champion. I am also in the camp that Gary needs to make his rounds first. I would like to see more seasoned but if the opportunity like Mares is presented, He shouldn't turn it down.

Even against an awkward puncher, he was able to show his great versatility and eventually get that guy out of there... i expected a win from Mares, but not a good beatdown! Very impressed by that one kid.

Did everyone just forget that Jayson Velez was supposed to fight Ponce de Leon BEFORE Mares? Mares was supposed to fight the winner. What ever happened to Jayson Velez getting a title shot? I think Mares beats him badly, but the dude was promised a title-shot.

I say, if the fight ever happens, Mares destroys Russell Jr.

 

This would be a good fight, sign me up for this one.

 

What if he wins and fights Rigondeux next year?
