I have no problem people clamoring for him to fight Saul. I thought Alvarez was going to be the real deal when he came onto the scene a few years back. I also wanted Floyd to fight Sergio after he Ko'd Paul, but things must be taken into perspective. We are in an age of informed athletes and no beacon shines brighter than Ali. I can't fault a man who has doen what Floyd has, if he is concerned about fighting some new guy in a division that is blowing up almost 20lbs in his early 20's. It would be a good and interesting match up, but I won't fault the guy if he doesn't. No one forces fighters to cut weight, so if they are worried about getting in the ring with someone like Floyd then maybe they should continue the trend and fight within a few lbs of your weight, not 20 lbs.

In this case and many other it used as a negative .. If you walking around 20 to 30 pound above your fighting weight then its time to move up .

Fighter are deliberately re-hydrating above their weight as a way to gain an advantage.

 

I would love to see the fight but I don't know why people struggle with the simple, accurate point made by the OP.

Floyd fights at about 150lbs which is JMW
Alvarez fights at about 170lbs which is LHW

That's 3 divisions different

Now compare Floyd to 2009 Marquez

Floyd was at about 150lbs
JMM was at about 145lbs (he was this heavy even at LW)

That's 1 division- possibly 0 divisions as JMM may have been over 147 for that fight- but no more than 1 division even if you reduce JMM to his natural fighting weight.

By not rehydrating Floyd is putting himself at a massive size disadvantage whenever he fights a "normal" rehydrating fighter. He weighs about the same as the top guys at LW. Not a tough point to grasp.

 

This the thing though if Trout wins i bet he would fight Trout and no one would be worried about it, its just because Alvarez packs a punch

PBF says he is the best or more accurately, the best of his era

SRR only fights opponents no more than 16.5 lbs bigger than him in over how many fights

But you think Floyd should fight guys even bigger because he is the best of his era? No serious KO pop like Armstrong, Duran or SRR had? Seems to me that if it's good enough for a monster like SRR to not fight that big and be known as the best, then Floyd should be allowed to. especially since he has probably already been in the ring with an opponent more than 16.5lbs bigger than him on fight night.
