Rios has a long career in front of him if he wants it.

Rios has never taken a serious beating in either his amateur or pro career. Never suffered from headaches or head trauma, other than some swelling around the eyes. Never sought medical assistance for any head related trauma. He has never been knocked out, never ever been really buzzed by a punch. The only time he took a knee was from a body shot early in his career. To say he is "damaged goods" "slurring his words" or anything like this is well, it is just stupid.

Acosta gave him a beating prior to getting knocked out, both Alvarado fights were brutal, and as the dude above said...once Manny finishes him this will cut years off his career.

 

They will both be asleep in the ring. Bill this fight as "The Slumber Party".

 

Pac will be a tough fight but I don't see him really hurting or stopping Rios. Pac will stay outside and try to out box him. If he is smart that is.

 

"Gave him a beating" is a major exaggeration.

 

I agree, Rios is one tough cookie and is probably in his prime at the moment. But:

• He's been rocked a couple of times (Acosta and Alvarado). No shame in being rocked, of course. Still has an iron chin. He's eaten repeated bombs from solid punchers and taken them in his stride 99% of the time.
• I think he's been down on the canvas once, too.
• I suspect his prime won't last too long seeing as though he's already had a few tough wars at a weight he was killing to make - Acosta and Murray. And those two vicious back-to-back scraps with a power-puncher like Alvarado can't have helped, either.

Aside from that, I agree, he's not slurring his words. He's talking normal. But he's still a nut-job, though. I've read and heard from a lot of trainers that have known him from a young age, that he's been a ruthless in-you-face brawler from the very beginning, and not much has changed.

 

Couldn't the same have been said about "iron chin" Margarito?

Rios gets hit in the head, a lot. The damage is accumulating, whether you think it shows or not. It will all catch up to him eventually when he gets his first good beating from a great puncher.

 

No he doesn't. He brawls way too much to have a "long career." He takes as much damage in one fight as a lot of guys take in 3 or 4. He'll be no more than a gatekeeper by his early 30s, if he lasts that long.

 

Dude, if you honestly think he's got the style to have a long career, and that he's NEVER suffered headaches, you've got to be kidding yourself.


You don't take that many punches consecutively without having headaches the following day/night.

 

Only time I know of that Rios was under a ten count was when he took a knee from a body shot. The head trainer of our gym Robert Gonzales was Brandon's trainer right up and until he went to the Olympic trials. Brandon has always been a gritty fighter. Never backed up in the ring "which is what we teach" . Brandon's dad Manuel still teaches young boxers how to fight inside like Brandon.

 

He already looks to be on the decline...

Why do you think he's different from the other fighters like him who had short careers?
He said he wants to be a Gatti-type fighter, on numerous occasions.

He also baloons up in weight inbetween fight, do you think that has no effect on him exclusively also?

I know you're a big Rios fan, but be honest with yourself man... don't be that stupid.
