He mostly throws 1 punch at a time, HARDLY throws combos. At 130/135 he was an excellent combo puncher, he hardly does it now a days. Is he TOO focused on his D that he does not want to get caught while throwing a combo?? He still has the speed/quickness to throw vicous combos im sure, he would really bust up & possibly hurt/stop his opponents if he threw more combos!!
He threw combos in the cotto and the ortiz fight..and everyone claim his legs were gone,this fight he went back to moving more
Getting older. He can't fight like he could when he was younger. When fighters get older they usually have to adapt their style if they are able to.
He can throw them but doesn't have to throw then that often. PBF-Gatti beautiful combos being thrown. Even against Cotto he threw combos.
Why do more than you have to do in order to win? The fact that he can dominate his opposition by throwing one punch at a time shows his level of superiority and greatness.
He throws them once in a full moon nowadays but back in the day when he was at 130 he was an excellent combination puncher and rarely ever threw a punch without another coming after except in the Corrales fight where he moved and pot shot but thats cause that was the best game plan to deal with Chico,Floyd was simply a much better fighter at 130 where was at his physical prime and at a weight where he ranks amongst the best if not the best that ever fought at that weight, the guy was a joy to watch back then and he took on some good opposition. Cant hate the 130 pound Mayweather.
Throwing combos gives his opponents more opportunities to land. He is also more conservative due to age and weight. I highly, highly doubt he could throw combos like he used to without getting tired nowadays (although there will be people who say differently). He has found a winning formula at WW though, this is almost completely negating his opponents offense with his focus on defense, whilst clearly winning rounds with 1 or 2 punches at a time. Picking up a clean, effective punch, then making the opponent clearly miss with shots, or vise versa. Can't blame him really, don't fix what is not broken.
Umm did you not see his fights vs Ortiz and Cotto? Did you not follow what he said during the buildup to this fight? Do you follow boxing at all?
He really doesn't have to. He's effective with the style he has. The real question is, how can his opponent make him throw combinations being that he doesn't do it much? If they could make him do that, then he'll be open for more counter shots. This is the code that know one has cracked yet. Exploit what he does and make it work against him.
Floyd is a safety first fighter in every since of the word. When you take chances by punching especially combination punching you leave a lot of openings no matter how you slice it. It's the nature of the beast.
