And that's an interesting suggestion. Working with Mackie Shilstone, Michael Spinks really built up his legs with plyometrics for his heavyweight campaign, particularly his thighs. [A record of his increase in thigh measurement from Sears to Tyson would be most revealing.] Mike Tyson's first knockdown of Michael was with a body shot, and one of the fastest starting ATGs ever caught one of the slowest starting hard punching ATGs ever cold. It would have been interesting to see what Michael's resistance to Tyson's power might have been if he'd had an opportunity to warm up properly, but of course that's a wildly improbable scenario. Spinks did not enter the ring prepared to go at the opening bell, Tyson always did, and that's that. He handled the much slower Cooney's power well though [much to my amazement], and Holmes carried decent HW power. Like Palomino and Danny Lopez, I'll never understand how a puncher like Michael Spinks could carry that much power, be a top amateur, and yet such a slow starter in the professional ranks.
