Yeah I think thats the best measurement. It's about how much of an impact said person had on the sport - that can be through in ring achievements or as entries like Sylvester Stallone show, outside the ring. I think Gatti had enough of an impact outside the ring to compensate for in the ring achievements

  2. I don't know about 5x the heart. I think they had the same heart. I exaggerated but he is definitely far superior in skills.

He is a light heavyweight fighter during one of the best eras of LHWS (Spinks,Johnson,Dwight etc)

The hall is supposed to be honoring the best boxers of all time, it's supposed to be a showcase of the greatest fighters to ever grace the sport. You really believe Gatti deserves to be in the hall over a ton of other guys who are deserving, and haven't gotten in? Look at the names he is next to, you think he deserves to be there?

It might be called the "hall of FAME," but you know as well as I do that the intention is to honor the best fighters of all time, it's the same in other sports too, only the true best are supposed to get in (and yes, I know mistakes happen.)

If we want to go along those same lines, there are plenty of guys who were famous as hell, with crappy resumes who can get in. If it's all about FAME, and skill isn't a large consideration, the list of inductees will be enormous.

At the very least you have to admit there are many guys more deserving than Gatti who have yet to get in.

Gatti was an exciting fighter, but I don't think his body of work warrants a HOF induction. It may have more to do with his endearment towards boxing fans who love his blood and guts approach to fights, I for one loved to watch him fight, and will always remember him for exciting fights, but HOF?

He was one of the greats in the game when Money fought him. After Money demolished him and made him look Chinese he was never the same afterwards.

There are many people less deserving who are already in. It's no less or more meaningful than a P4P list, the world is no better or worse a place because of someone's inclusion.

    Hall of FAME

Was he not famous? More so than many inductees?

I nominate Brian Nielsen, when he becomes eligible.

    You summarized it perfectly.

No, he was never a "great," not at any time in his career. He was always a one dimensional brawler with very limited skills, who depended on his ability to absorb punishment. Look at his resume, he was never the best in any weight class he was in, at any time. He was always a second tier fighter; Mayweather didn't "destroy" him, he just showed what happened when Gatti went up against a skilled fighter, and showcased how one dimensional he is. Gatti would get beaten like a rag doll against any elite fighter, and his resume is indicative of this.

The HOF is no longer about just talent.

The sole induction set of criteria for voting is actually "achievements in the ring as a professional boxer".

In practice voters either apply their own selective slant to this criteria, or just ignore it altogether whenever it suits them.

Gatti has been inducted simply because a big percentage of voters enjoyed his fights. The criteria have been fitted around the fighter, rather than any objective analysis of Gatti's achievements.

The only real issue with Gatti being inducted is that unless he is seen as an exception, it makes it more difficult to define what a "HOF level" career actually looks like.

Has it ever been, in any sport? How many guys could have made it if they hadn't been ducked, robbed, injured at an unlucky time, etc.
