Yeah, Papp is ridiculous when you consider it is based on professional achievements. He'd have his own wing in an amateur Hall of Fame though.

The only reason it's called the Hall of Fame is because that is the name given to places that are used to honour people who have achieved great things in a particular area.

It's not like Brophy and his boys sat around thinking of what they were going to call the thing, and insisted that "Fame" had to be in there somewhere in case really exciting fighters came along who weren't actually that good but were in great fights and all that.

The name itself is pretty meaningless. If you want to get really geeky about it, the term "Hall of Fame" comes from the German translation, which is closer in definition to "Glory" than "Celebrity" - glory being renown linked to achievement, rather than due to being "well-known".

Because its called the hall of FAME.

  6. Some people get induction in the HOF mixed up with ATG status.

Relax, it's just the hall of fame. It means he was a famous boxer, period.

The HoF is no different to the Oscars. The 'best' candidate is rarely the most deserving and if they do it to the same person enough times, they get a Scorsese-style gimme or an honorary Oscar down the line. Someone being an Oscar-winner doesn't affect my enjoyment of their movies, same as with any boxer getting into, or not getting into the HoF.

  10. Because he was a very exciting and captivating fighter. He has four ring fight of the year. He was great for boxing. He made casual fans into major boxing fans. His wil to keep fighting was incredible, I guy that got hurt in many fights and seemed to become more dangerous. There was a reason he became a household name, if you don't get it, it's probably because you like staring at records and stats, and don't care about anything else, if that's your hang up you probably are not going to be convinced. If you don't know why Gatti is the hall of fame, **** your ******ed

  11. Really, cuz nobody gives a **** or agrees with that, that's why Gatti is in the hall of fame. How many times did Muhammad have fight of the year? I mean if he was so compelling and had how much? Five times the heart? You think we would all be talking about him and remembering him like we do Gatti, but we don't.

  12. It's actually 4 fight of the year

  13. What a snooty little *** with your dumb comments. A B level fighter thats being generous? The guy won titles you stupid ****, the guy beat top contenders as well, he had four fight of the year fights
