That is a great payday for Cotto, I hope this fight goes thru. It's like a reverse of of the Trout fight this time Miguel wants revenge for his brother. (Mex Vs. PR it sells its self)
I honestly dont care to see it I dont think it does anything for Canelo, it benefits Floyd, keeps him safe from an ass whippen in Sept.. while putting Miguels health further at risk... in what Round does Canelo Make Cotto Quit that is the question.....:think
This fight would get/give Alvarez his first headliner PPV under his belt. That's what sucked about getting the Trout fight so soon... I knew that would be the last cable fight we would get. (Now we have to pay) I'd stick with the safe RD 11 Stoppage for Alvarez.
Canelo will beat Cotto better than Floyd did which will help promote the Mayweather/Alvarez fight. This is all this is really.
Dont see it as a mismatch. Cotto had a competitive fight with Trout who lost a razor close decision to Canelo.
I really, really like and respect my fellow boricua, Cotto, but let's not twist facts just to suit our position. Cotto clearly did not want to fight Floyd when Floyd was in his prime (during the Gatti beat down). For whatever the reasons, either he wasn't ready or Bob didn't think he was ready, Cotto did not fight Floyd in his prime.
Cotto's one of my absolute faves but surely he ought to first prove that he deserves such an opportunity by beating a legitimate contender level fighter after coming off of 2 consecutive defeats. These contrived narratives that the promoters are mustering completely undermines any semblance of a ranking system. Hard to defend this even as a Cotto fan.
Cotto should fight someone like Ortiz before facing Canelo, or even consider a move back down to 47 where big fights against Khan or Broner could potentially be made.
