watched it several and the rock didnt look like he was trying very hard to win. was this fight fixed to move davey up in the ranks?
Davey, who had springs for legs 'n a piston jab, was a lot tougher than fans gave him credit for. He did the same thing to Rocky that Mayweather did to Guerrero...Styles make fights.
well after his retirement rocky was a guest on a radio show and i called in and said, "rocky, most people think you made your tv acting debut on the martha raye show, but that's not right," he said "what?" and i said "you made your tv acting debut in the chuck davey fight" and he and the friend who was traveling with him laughed so hard they couldn't finish the interview. I saw the fight on live tv with a few friends...all connected with boxing and we knew what was happening. it was such an obvious handcuff job that we laughed through while watching. davey was getting the tv build up then, and rocky came out of retirement for a payday and added to the farce. kid gavilan exposed the chcuk davey myth easily.
Maybe it was a fix. Its not that crazy, but its equally likely that Rocky was just burnt out. He'd spent years and years rebuilding after the Zale 3 massacre, all culminating in the fight with Sugar Ray. He'd dropped Ray only to practically get decapitated moments later. Its got to be heartbreaking to invest all that time and effort into a shot at redemption only to fall short. Maybe that took his desire away. Maybe not. Maybe it was a fix. Either way, Davey had all the bad karma he'd acquired from beating Rocky cashed in in one night when Gavilan decimated him in a beating for the ages.
