yeah, Mayweather needed to use Baldy as a stepping stone to get to Oscar. Being the Lineal champ at WW makes a fight with a JMW who just came down from MW more legit than a JWW who beat a TR Hype job. Also, bob probably wanted Floyd to extend his contract with TR to get that 8mill. its no secret that bob did not want to make the PBF-ODLH so I think history proves mayweather made the right move:thumbsup

Rigo was the headliner who fought the cash cow of the division:patsch.:patsch

if Mares headlined a card, and someday he will, he will easily make a lot more than that. he fought for less under Floyd because it increases his exposure . . . its a trade off

Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8KOs) says there is no interest in moving up in weight to pursue a fight with Abner Mares, who last Saturday stopped Daniel Ponce De Leon for the WBC featherweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Rigondeaux is fresh from his twelve round unanimous decision win over Nonito Donaire.

"Absolutely not [I am not moving up]. I plan to stay at 122-pounds," Rigondeaux told George Ebro. "It's just that I'm naturally a 122-pounder. I eat and eat, but do not get fat. Thank God I do not spend my time suffering to make weight like other fighters. So I have no reason to leave the division in which I have proved my qualifications and in which I feel the most comfortable."

"Whoever is in my division, whoever has the titles, whoever wants them...let me know. I'm here. I think there are plans to make a fight in Miami, my people are talking to Top Rank to see what they can do."

    Yeah..

A lot of folks said Ponce would knock Mares out. We saw how that turned out. Rigo isn't busy enough to knock Mares out. He simply does not throw enough punches. Mares will fight Rigo the way he fought Moreno and he will maul Rigo into submission. Rigo will run all night just like Moreno did.

That's some wishful thinking on your part but you're way off.Rigo has beaten mares before has shown he can take nonitos punches & come back with even stronger ones.Mares is a good fighter he'll never be in the same class as Rigo though. This would be easier money than the donaire fight mares is too predictable & walks straight forward. The more he opens up the more counters he'll eat it's that's simple.Doesn't take a genius to figure this one out,GB wont allow it though it's bad for mares health.

Amateurs don't mean a ****ing thing. If you believe they do, then that just shows you aren't very astute. It's funny you talk about Mares not being in the same class yet Mares has been dominating TOP competition for years at the pro level. Rigo has ONE good win. ONE. And, people thought Mares was going to be "predictable" against Ponce, and we see how that turned out. Mares was an Olympian...perhaps you forgot that. In order to be an Olympian, you have to be a good boxer. You're inference that Mares is not a good boxer once again just shows that you don't know what you're talking about.

I agree that 122 is probably his most effective fighting weight but the only money fights left in the 118-122 range are Frampton and Santa Cruz. I've got to believe that Rigo would move up to challenge Garcia after defeating those two... if the price is right.
