I know mate, I'm sure he was in the corner for one of the fights. I was familiar with your grandad as it happens before I started to come on the boxing forums.

Our paths will probably cross at some point. I'll probably get over for the Scottish hall of fame at some point. I 've got plenty Of friends up there. I keep in touch with Evan Armstrong's daughter. I always have a chat with Vernon Sollas, John McCluskey, Dick McTaggart and of course BObbie Neill. Do you know Ray Caulfield?

yes Ray was quite helpful in trying to get my book published by proper big companies, but Boxing is so dead, you just can't get them to see beyond it being more than a sport bio or boxer's bio.

I wrote my book specifically to read like a great and visual and Human Interest Story, which I/we did an excellent job at. But again Boxing is so _ucken dead they just autumatically tie boxing books into the same 'unsellable' genre, but IF they actually took one like mine and Marketed it as a Human Interest Story and really pushed it in all the right circles it would sell very well indeed.

I am very grateful to Ray & a few others!

No offence but boxing is niche enough as it is. Non-fiction is a deep pool. You did alright.

Well I've grown up talking boxing, you're grandad is probably considered the best of the Scottish big men even though he wasn't particularly big. They were tough times that he was fighting in, such a big pool of fighters. Me dad was a fight fan so I grew up talking about and reading about the old time fighter particularly Liverpool fighters. Fellas like Dom Volante, Ginger Foran, Joe Curran etc, fellas that nobody remember now. I'm 48 but I remember as a kid meeting the likes of Peter Kane, Jack kid Berg, Ernie Roderick, Larry Gains, the list goes on.

I'm asking for opinions. I sometimes see good posters raise an accusatory finger toward present-day fighters because they know they come in larger than advertised. I don't know where I stand on this as I don't have all the facts on the subject. That's why I ask. If you have the time please also give us your thoughts on the examples I've given.

Put it this way, Canelo came in at 172 and Martin Murray 176!!!

It's not accusing them either; this is a different rule set. Divisions are meaningless nowadays.
