What do you mma guys think of this article? I think it's funny that they had to use a little, aging fighter in Mayweather to compare to a young, large fighter. They even used the Toney/Couture fight as an example lol. Why didnt they mention Mercer/Silvia? I just found so much wrong in the article. This makes no sense. Of course mma is closer to a street fight. You can do everything you can do in a boxing match + kick, hold and hit, take the fight to the ground, win by submission....it goes on an on. How the hell is boxing like a street fight? It's more like a violent game of tag.

how many triangles or ankle locks do you see in a street fight? From working in the bar, the only people in a fight that would use anything resembling mma would be us, and that was mainly chokes to end the fight. Fights always start standing and are predominantly punching and most likely weapon use would be next (chairs, bottles, etc). Ever see a girl/cat fight? They are winging punches. Even animals you could say fight closer to what we say is boxing than mma. They dont try and choke out their foe, they "punch it to death"
It also depends on the fighters in the street fight. Obviously a trained fighter would use his discipline, but the average shlubb off the street doesnt know a blood choke from an armbar, but they can all punch.
What the **** is your point? That mma is less like a fight because most people that get into street fights aren't trained.
Most animals don't even have fingers let alone opposable thumbs, so they are physically incapable of grappling. And when they fight, even our closest relatives - the chimpanzees - don't punch with a closed fist. Sometimes they slap, but mainly they gouge and bite. Which animals attack by punching? :conf Kangaroos sometimes punch each other when males fight for dominance, but more often they slap and kick. Other than that, I can't think of an animal that punches at all (punches, not cuffs or slaps), let alone punches as its main attack. :blood :hat

I say it's not, not unless 1 or 2 of the participants are trained. 2 untrained thugs will throw punches and slug it out. So unless you think the majority of people that get into street fights, drunks, jealous watching gf cheat, high on meth, whatever, YOU think the majority of these people are trained. I'm saying you're wrong.
