Yeah Craney, devastating KO'S against unfit, average opposition.
Gonzalez isn't a mug but he's stepping up to a level he's been no where near. I think he'll get overawed.

Gonzalez may not have a great record but he can both fight and box pretty well, he may give Burns a few problems along the road but Burns' class and pedigree should shine through for a UD barring any disasters, Burns has beaten the likes of Gonzalez before

How do you know that though? Browsing Boxrec?

Of course Ricky Burns is a step up, fighting out of Puerto Rico for the first time is a step up in itself. Ricky Burns has been in with better named opposition than Jose Gonzalez. But for all you know, this could be Gonzalez's Ricky Burns moment against Martinez.

Every fighter has to make that step or not. We will find out how good or bad Jose Gonzalez is come fight night.

You are entitled to your opinion. :good

Like yourself i also watched the youtube clips of Gonzalez. It looks like he's used to getting it all his own way, a bit like Mitchell when he punched his way through a list of b/c level fighters. I may be wrong but i think Gonzalez will crumble like Mitchell when he starts getting hit back, especially since he's not used to it.

Of course every fighter needs to take the step up. I just think this is a huge step for Gonzalez judging by the dross he's been banging out. If Gonzalez pulls it out the bag i'll be the first to take my hat off to him.

We'll see on sat Craney :good.

Ricky Burns seems like a stand up guy and he's definately over-achieved and done brilliantly in his career especially as many wrote him off after the Johanneson loss. Having said that he was also very carefully managed beating a pretty average champion in Roman Martinez and then beating average to poor/shot/undisciplined fighters like Evensen, Laryea, Cook, Katsidis and Mitchell. His best win for me is still Paulus Moses who is no great shakes but a tough competitor.

Gonzalez is not a puncher but the reason he'll win this fight is due to his accuracy and timing. Having sized each fighter up this will be the fight where Burns is found out on world level.

How i see the fight playing out:

Fight starts off pretty evenly and a few feeling out rounds. Between the 4th and 6th rounds Gonzalez will land a punch that will open a big cut on Ricky who will carry on fighting like the champion he is but will struggle from there on. Between the 6th and 8th Ricky will be knocked down but he manages to get back up and carry on fighting. Gonzalez will keep timing him and making the cut worse to the point that Billy Nelson realises he has to pull Burns out between the 8th and 10th rounds.

GONZALEZ wins via TKO although if it does goes to points i wouldn't be surprised if Burns gets the benefit of a controversial hometown decision.

How's that then Craney he's not the same fighter that lost to CJ and different class now, plus not been beat in 5 years so how do you beat him, inexperience beat him twice, both AAA and CJ would be destroyed by Ricky now.

It's a PREDICTION thread so i was giving my prediction of how i saw the fight going based on respective styles and how they were matched-up.

I like Ricky and think he's done great in his career. As for anything i've said i will stick by and hope you have a good cutman in your corner tomorrow as Gonzalez is a very accurate puncher and i just see him opening cuts on ricky.

Has Ricky ever faced any TOP 5 Super feather/lightweight in the world? of cause he hasn't! You could make the case for Roman Martinez/Paulus Moses/Kevin Mitchell being on the fringes of the Top 10 but they were hardly world beaters or anywhere near the best of the division.

I just happen to believe GONZALEZ will prove to be the best opponent Ricky has faced in his career and will systematically brake down and bust up Ricky by his acurate timing and hard counters that he throws. If i'm wrong i'll be the first to hold my hands up and give Ricky the credit he deserves.
