Except that Toney himself was around 35 years old, when he made his mark as a heavyweight. Unless you would rather throw the 28 year old Toney in there vs Marciano, you know the one who lost to Drake Thazdi
Sam Peters (x2), Holyfield and Hasim Rahman couldn't KO Toney, but Marciano will? Hmmm... Not saying it's impossible just that Toney is a very hard nut to crack, especially for a guy who has accuracy issues like Marciano. I am going to pick Marciano by UD. He outworks Toney in an ugly contest. Toney tries to take off parts of rounds and Marciano continues to steamroll but Toney has enough guile to avoid getting KO'd. Furthermore, there will be a KD when Toney scores a sneaky counter right and puts Marciano on his ass for a 3 count. Still, not enough to make up for Marciano's work rate.
If Walcot 1 was a 12 rounder , Rocky would of turned up the heat earlier and got him out of there. He proved that in the rematch. He also proved against Charles if he had to end a fight next round , he could go out and end it.
Toney just can't hurt Marciano, but then again he's a tough ******* with a terrific defense. I think Maricnao wins based on workrate and aggression, but it'd be a crappy fight to watch. Marciano UD over 15.
I like seamus' take on this one. Toney was a tough one to ko due to his defensive ability and chin but his body would be there to hit even if his chin wouldn't be and Rocky would hit it..and often. Toney would give Rocky fits early on but Rocky's workrate would see him through. Toney would land some hard counters out of his shell but Rocky would pressure him and keep him in his shell as the fight wore on. Marciano by decision and both men marked up.
Marciano really gets to him late, that stamina would definitely pay off in the late rounds. I'm going with a 12 round decision for Rocky.
Because I think Toney would be trying to survive after a few rounds, not win. He has the tools to frustrate Marciano and make him look bad.
Marciano blasts Toney out within seven rounds. It always amuses me to see Toney matched up with all time great heavies. Who has he ever beaten at that weight ? James was a great middle and Super Middle only.
But not the feet. So you think he's gonna' outpoint Marciano stood shoulder to shoulder with him? Might've worked against Jirov. Less so against Marciano I reckon.
