Talk in other thread that Floyd easily surpasses RJJ got me thinking, Roy wining HW belt is like Floyd wining 160 belt or 168 belt:think
I feel people seriously underrate how hard was for Roy former MW to win HW belt!

    I'm not sure.

    Probably beating Ward at 168

  4. False.
Floyd beating Ward at 168 will be like Roy beating LEWIS at HW.
    Not Ruiz.

Roy beating Ruiz is more like Floyd beating Jean Pascal at 175.

In what why does Floyd Mayweather easily surpass Roy Jones...? stupid.

"Technically you do understand that he went 49-0 and during that time was Middle Weight, Super Middle Weight, Undisputed 175 Champion "Floyd Mayweather has never been Undisputed at ANY weight class, and of course WBA heavyweight Champion".........and Roy Jones still has the record of holding the most belts at one weight class, at one time..? he held 6 or 8 belts at 175.

Roy Jones is the last creditable pound for pound number 1 boxer, pound for pound rankings are a joke just opinion, these days its just a popularity contest.

Roy Jones was number 1, because he was the best!.

:patsch What does later part of his career have to do with this, does his late losses mean he did not win HW title, did Alis loses to Holmes, Berbick or Spinks make him any less of a fighter, think about that!

Not factoring in their previous weights or size at all, Jones over John Ruiz is a victory that is on par or just ever slightly above Mayweathers' over Zab Judah. Which isn't in Mayweathers' top 10 victories.

It's a damn shame. But it shouldn't be held against him in my opinion. We can't pretend the losses never happened, but we all know that Roy on his best day, would never have lost to the guys who he lost to, and that's not being disrespectful to them. You can't undo what's already being done, with regards to ranking him.

The Ruiz fight gets overlooked. There's a reason that what Roy had achieved, hadn't been done for 106 years. Yes, Ruiz was by no means great, but he was effective, and he was a top ten ranked guy who'd got a belt.

Who currently at 168 and 175, is realistically going to go up and fight at heavy?

If Floyd bulked up to fight at 160, and then dropped back to 147, losing pure muscle in a short space of time, then how would it effect him?

    Who knows?

I think there's a huge chance that Floyd won't retire undefeated. Because in my opinion, even after his contract is up, I think he'll have a few comebacks. I can definitely envisage Floyd fighting in his 40's like so many others have done.

How can you not factor in the circumstances, the weights etc?

If Floyd Mayweather remains, undefeated through his showtime contract! He won't come out of retirement man.

Floyd Mayweather's marketability is all about his 0, can you remember when Roy Jones was 40 - 0 did he give ****, and say..

Note: Montel Griffin winning by a ******ed DQ is not a win. Roy Jones went 49-0, and during that time was by far better than Floyd Mayweather.

40 have tried, 40 have fail..? No.

If Floyd Mayweather gets beaten in his next fight..? It will then be very interesting to see how Floyd Mayweather reacts.

Remember..? Roy Jones is one of the most intelligent fighters of all time. Long before he was beaten, he stated that he will never go on for too long and have a emotional demise but..? It happened.

Sugar Ray Leonard was the same!

I wonder, i wonder if deep down inside Floyd Mayweather has that same kind of warrior spirit..? To go until the utter end.

I'm just saying, if an unranked, unnamed HW beat that John Ruiz, it would be as meaningful or less meaningful than if an unranked, unnamed WW beat that Zab Judah.

When considering a fighters' legacy I obviously factor in divisions conquered and a leap like that is mighty impressive...

I was just saying in regards to the sole basis of how impressive the victory is, not factoring in the guy who won but only the guy who was defeated and where they were at.

:rofl:patsch Dont be offended but this is one of the stupidest things i have ever read here, it is like saying Floyd win over Ward at 168 would mean nothing if not factoring in their previous weight, well you have to factor it thats why there are division in boxing:patsch

Beating Ward would make Mayweather the GOAT.. So yeah, it would have been like Roy beating Lennox, he would have been the GOAT had he done that.

Mayweather beating a solid 160 champ at MW, would be comparable to Roy beating Ruiz. There is something about the HW division though, being the highest weight class, that for sure makes it seem more impressive, with all the history in it.

But we also have to remember, Mayweather would have to win the MW belt, and immediately drop back to 147 and win that belt back, to properly be compared to what Roy did. Sometimes fighters dropping back down was harder than when they moved up.
