Hearns and SRL often get the benefit of being matched up h2h with today's smaller welters. What happens if the tables are turned, and they fight a certified ATG with a significant size adv over them?
Ezzard Charles man. Charles was a man with very sneaky quickness and possessed good power (Although he hasn't known to be that big of a power puncher). His power was good enough to get your respect and then some. He's beaten some heavy punchers and I just don't think Ray or Hearns would be enough to beat him. He also had insanely good skills as a boxer and tough as ****ing nails in the ring. He's WAY too big for them. A better comparison would be RJJ or Ray Robinson vs Ezzard Charles. Even then, Ezzard beats them both on my count. Even at 160. Hearns/Ray were pretty untested there (Although Ray had a win over Hagler at 160). Charles would beat them both pretty handily. If you drained Ezzard to 147 or 154, then Tommy and Ray could beat him. In MW and above, no ****ing way.
Hearns and Leonard are 2 of the greatest fighters I have ever seen in my lifetime, but neither was a great lightheavyweight. In fact, Leonard never fought at 175 and only "earned" his lightheavyweight strap against LaLonde at 168. Ezzard Charles is at least a top 3 lightheavy and maybe the greatest ever at that weight. At 175, neither Leonard nor Hearns stands a snowball's chance in hell against Charles. Ezzard knocks them both the **** out.
I have been saying this type of thing for awhile. Its often fans who are trying to discredit Floyd or Manny who do this type of ****. that being said everybody should rank both Srl AND Hearns well above Mayweather and Pac
