The only reason the welterweights are an exception is they really had gotten MUCH smaller than the past welterweights..

5'10-6 WW'S were a lot more common back than then it is now.

Now most of the welter weights are like ****ing 5'7 5'8 5'6..

Anyways, some good points you made there but I do believe Floyd gives a lot of old ATGs trouble. Such as Duran, Leonard, Hearns to a degree, Robinson too and would have a chance against all of them.

 

I actually think Floyd beats SRR but loses to SRL. Weird because Robinson is the GOAT, but Ray Leonard is like top 15. But yeah, styles make fights. SRL, a taller, longer reach, fast hands, very intelligent boxer. Definitely the only WW in history that I would not pick Floyd over. Hearns is another guy i'd be nervous about picking Floyd against.

 

Well. ya.. Nobody will dominate Floyd. I'm just saying I think one of the biggest reasons he will lose is because of size. You yourself knows how important that is with the Lewis-Klitschko thread .. and of course with the Ellerbe fist size comments.

 

no doubt about that, no one could beat FLoyd easily, someone as smart talented and versatile like Floyd is hard to beat for anyone, i would say that only guy i see stopping him(that I'm pretty confident he would) is Tommy Hearns!

I don't know enough about Robinson. And I don't agree that he beats Leonard. But he pretty much stated why. You are talking about athletics and hand speed and combination punching. Paulie is talking about boxing IQ, brains, making adjustments. In Paulie's mind, Mayweather's IQ is so great that he would be able to take away Leonard and Robinson's best abilities.

 

Size isn't everything, but it is big.

I still think Floyd has the skills necessary to give them all trouble and beat them from time to time.

that statement's ridiculous to the point of being offensive. srr pretty much revolutionized boxing. he ushered boxing into the modern era. he was very technical. his footwork was superb, his chin was cast iron and he had tremendous power in both hands. he was extremely versatile. he was very good at cutting off the ring. he probably would've stopped floyd. i dont know about srl.

 

I agree with Paulie that Mayweather has incredible God Given natural boxing talents probably equaling most other fighters in history BUT just boxing talents alone do not make an ATG. ATG's has to have talent, heart ,balls & the will to FIGHT!!!!. Floyd has the talent but lacks the other 3. The way he's cherry picked & dodged & ducked men he SHOULD have faced prove this. Would Robinson be considered an ATG if he'd ducked the Raging Bull Jake La Motta? Would Leonard if he'd ducked Marvin Hagler, even though I believe Leonard got a gift in that fight? Look how Mayweather ducked Paquaio & Margarito? It speaks for itself. Mayweather will never be any more than an incredibaly talented WANNABE!!!!!!!!!!!!
