Gotta say myself, I thought the guy was not special at all seeing his bout with Zamora. Thought Ceja would take him out, but McDonnell clearly showed he can up a level with this bout. That was one excellent performance and he deserves to be up with our best fighters on that performance.

    Kudos to Jamie McDonnell. :good:bbb

I kind of prefer it when a kid has taken the hard route to a title instead of padding his record and doing it the easy way. Good luck to him.

Great win and performance. He's earned that after tough fights with the likes of Arnould and Jamoye and his performance against a dangerous guy was fantastic

You must have a reading problem. I just said, I didn't rate him, but his performance won me over.

I remember way back people saying McDonnell wouldnt be a world champ, i always thought he would be. As for those saying his record is padded thats BS, hes taken the orthodox route and won all the belts and defended them too, and just beat a guy whose touted as being a new super star. Now we can see how he does from now on in.

I just find too many on ESB are too harsh on british boxers its a case of airing on the side of caution to save face or pride

McDonnell showed hes got a good boxing brain and that hes got heart and can take a good punch.

he`s a World Champ lets be proud

Absolutely fantastic result for McDonnell tonight...if determination wins you a world title then he has it in bundles. Driving down to the south of France with just a hand full of supporters, on short notice to stop the european championand take his title should tell us all we need to know. He doesn't need everything to be just so to fight, he;s a good solid fighter

Burns & McDonnell prove you cannot write a fighter off based on early fights. To many people on here watch a pro debut and talk about a fighter faults, with no concept of fighters improving.

Congrats to McDonnell. Hope Hobson sorts out a proper TV deal and can start building McDonnell into a house hold name. BW is not the strongest division right now so he should be able to rack up quite a few defences, and theres big money fights at SBW with Quigg & Frampton.

McDonnells run towards the title was massively under rated. although i always felt Napa beat him.

Napa wouldn't ever have produced a fight like McDonnell did tonight
