Burns was poor tonight Rudyard, and you and me usually kool, but that was opinion, not fact.
Gilfoid is a notorious troll who hates British fighters. If you use him as a source of "fact" then you really are asking for trouble.

Did he not turn down the Broner fight??? Its very simple...We are cool but I'm just calling like it is...Burns wanted no parts of Broner and that's a fact if you're willing to accept it or not.

Not trying to be a dick towards you because I do have more respect for you as a poster but I just had to put those other assholes in their place. I'm sorry man, but I'm just calling a spade a spade.

The only solid offer was the one where Burns would only have had 7 weeks proper training for Broner because HBO wouldn't move the fight and were busting Broner's balls.
That fight could ruin Ricky as well as make him. Most Burns fans know it's a huge ask,but for that reason,he was entitled for a full camp and request a later date.
HBO said no,and Broner fought Rees, because no belt holder in their right mind would've accepted that.
If Burns had fought Rees then,he would've been slaughtered on here.

Look at the cold hard facts. Then ask what you would've done.It was a smartbusiness move and had he fought Vasquez,he would've had far more to bargain with for a Broner fight.
I don't believe that you can't see the logic in that.

Listen, anyone who writes Ricky Burns off after that is a fool. Ok, say Broner is a level above him.. fair point. But on the flip side, Burns is a world class operator himself.

Fighters, especially world champions, all go through fights like Burns had tonight. Going into this fight, people who had clearly never seen anything of Gonzalez were calling him a "crude banger" etc. Gonzalez was the exact opposite. He was awkward and rangey.

His record - 17 stoppages - suggested he could bang, but when Ricky was caught with big shots he bit down on the gum shield and kept coming. Fair play to him, he showed balls and a chin tonight after coming off a lay off, change of promoter etc etc.

Decent fight and a good win for Burns.

Gonzalez though - it's a world title fight, as a boxer you work day in day out in order to reach that level. You finally get the opportunity, why couldn't he fight the last 2/3 rounds with 1 arm? If he lost or got stopped then ok, but he could have glued his injured hand to his chin and went from there.

Might have showed a lot of talent tonight, but not the heart to go with it.

Burns was in the process of being shut out and Lacy'd by a mandatory challenger. That doesn't happen to very many champions at all.

    ?

Gonzalez was absolutely ****ed after the 7th round, his legs were leaving him. Didn't you see him in the corner, they were literally focused on his legs.

You're telling me he was going to last another 3 rounds?

Well actually you don't need to answer that, because he didn't

Things were going the way they were going because Gonzalez had a broken wrist. Of course Burns was going to sweep the remaining rounds and get a draw.

My point is that it has nothing to do with anything Burns did. Burns didn't turn the fight around, the fight just turned around. Before the injury it was a rout, and would have continued to be if the injury hadn't occurred.

No mention of what happened in round 7, a Gonzalez round inwhich he had Burns hurt but Burns heart and desire turned the fight on it's head despite losing the rd and taking the more punishment of the two?

No mention that Burns clearly won the 8th and 9th and looked huge favourite to sweep the remaining three to get at worst a draw on the cards?

No mention it was against a very good undefeated (22-0 17ko) fighter with an awkward style, power in both hands and skill who is clearly on the evidence of tonight better than the likes of DeMarco etc?

His legs never recovered after they stiffened in the 7th, whereas Burns' did

He may even have got stopped by Burns due to this, he definitely wasn't winning another round, he knew it himself, still should not have quit

    'splain yourself, Lucy.

Your theory is he quit because he was tired? After he expended almost no energy in the first 6 rounds? He suddenly gassed out because he threw a few combinations in the 7th? And you're 100% positive that it had nothing to do with his wrist being broken? I'm sorry, but if you don't mind my asking, do you even lift?
