Juan Manuel Marquez' Rank Of the Mexi-ATGs?

He has a legitimate case to #1. Arguable between he, JCC, and Morales though.

 

I could actually see him ranked on par or even above Canto and not terribly far off from Sanchez or Saldivar.

 

uh, olivares and sanchez are both clearly better

 

I still don't get the hype regarding Miguel Canto.

2. Olivares
3. Sanchez
4. Saldivar
5. Marquez (my version of Marquez has beaten John, Norwood, 2-1-1 against Pac)

 

Laugh @ these dudes who are rating guys like canto and saldivar over marquez when they probably never even saw them fight live..

Ruben olivares, saldi, and canto most definitely are not above marquez.. Smh

 

I know many folks love to romanticize and glorify these old school fighters after reading articles or hearing stories about them from old timers but seriously, it gets irritating especially in threads like this.

In terms of ability, p4p , and h2h, guys like saldi, olivares and canto are a notch below marquez.

What has canto done to be rated above marquez? Lol what fkin joke..

 

Well, he cleaned out his division and unequivocally established himself as the # 1 fighter there.

Something Marquez has never done.

 

Ismael Laguna, Johnny Famechon and Howard Winstone don't have **** on Chris John. :deal

 

Truly one of the most imbecilic posts I've ever read.

 

His resume is underrated as it wasn't in the limelight early on and his unification at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight gets overshadowed by Pacquaio going up to welterweight. But ask yourself, how many fighters have unified 3 divisions?

He also has 4 wins over Pacquaio for me, but at least 3 wins over his arch rival on any fair card.

Marquez fought allot of top 10 avoided guys himself at 126 that he doesn't get enough credit for. I thought he beat Chris John, a classic boxer mover technician and a style he didn't match up well with.

Norwood and Gainer were fast tricky southpaws, Norwood was a close decision loss, Gainer he dominated coming off a Norwood win.

Polo was a southpaw technician who was robbed in his title fights against Harrison and Chacon. Completely dominated

Pacquaio 1 - knocked down 3 times, hit on the floor illegally to come back and win most of the rounds, remarkable toughness combined with technique is reminiscent of Archie Moore vs Durrelle

Medina - 5 time champion

Salido - an easier defense who years later would twice beat Juan Lopez to become a champion

That for me makes a very good featherweight title reign, very much underrated

Then you have the Barrera and Juarez wins and Pacquaio robbery at 130. Then at 135 he faces a much bigger Diaz and Katsidis and Cassamayor who many claim had never lost despite being past his prime. The knocks are Casamayor and Barrera were past prime but Marquez was the same age. In the process of beating Casamayor and Juan Diaz he beat 1 and 2 at lightweight claiming linerage

Then steps up 2 weight classes to WW to completely outbox Pacquaio before knocking him out in the rematch. Legendary stuff

Now at the age of 40 with nearly a year out the ring he takes on the lineal 140lb champion at welterweight.

He's underapreciated and the more you watch him the more you realise what a great boxer he is.

Top 3 for me but he has a shout for no1 depending on criteria
