It's a fact and not my opinion. If you take the jr and super divisions out of the equation and just factor in the 8 original classes. Roy was a legit world champ in 3. Middle, light heavy, and heavy. Floyd only 2. Lightweight and welterweight Roy took risks ala Ruiz and shedding solid mass to go back down to fight Tarver. Floyd's never been at a disadvantage once in his career. The boxing nostalgia's won't care about PVP #'s or W-L records, but what they will mark down is what was accomplished inside that ring and against whom. Floyd just doesn't have enough prime fighter wins on his record to compete with Roy. Also, RJJ had much more compelling wins and entertainment value in his performances whereas people pay to see floyd hopefully lose. Most of his success in PPV #'s is from his crafty promoting moreso than it is because fans feel they get good value for there money once the fight is over. Rjj left fans satisfied at what they were treated to. History will ALSO record that. There's no objective disputing that Roy was/is the greater fighter.
Roy being HW titlist and moving back down to regain the LHW title alone puts him ahead of Mayweather. Hopkins UD Toney UD McCallum KO Johnson UD etc.
Meant Montell KO atsch HW title LHW title MW title Tarver, Hopkins, Toney, Ruiz, McCallum, Johnson, Gonzales, Griffin. You know you're too good when Mags are begging you to move up to HW from light heavyweight :!:
Roy Jones technically went 49-0 Was middleweight, super-middle weight, Undisputed Light Heavyweight, WBA Heavyweight Champion in that time. Note: Floyd Mayweather has never been undisputed at any weight class. Note: Roy Jones has beaten better fighters than Mayweather has, at better times in their career.
Roy was a once in a lifetime type of talent. Truly unique. Mayweather is a special fighter, but he's no Roy Jones.
Roy would have been 50-0 if he didn't hit Griffin when he was down.. titles at MW, SMW, LHW and HW then back again to LHW.. His reign lasted a long time... He gets underrated while getting knocked out by average fighters are fresh on peoples minds, or people that simply didn't watch boxing back when he was at his best. Once he is gone for years, and people look at all of his achievements and then watch some videos and realize he is the best fighter on film, he will move up for sure. His career did take a swift tragic turn though, went from Superman to getting knocked out by average fighters in comparison. I think time will be kind to him, and he will move up in peoples rankings as years pass.. What he accomplished was truly amazing, and I rate him highest since Whitaker. Floyd is great as well, and is still a little behind Roy in my book, but he still has the skills and potential to pass Roy, that is up to Floyd though.
Smh. Roy Jones was great but his resumes is actually not better then floyds. Roy best win is actually against toney but toney had to lose 40 pounds to make 168 pound limit. When roy beat hopkins, hopkins was far green for god sake. Since that time roy really didnt beat anybody that was very good until he fought i guess tarver but tarver only best win in his career was against a shot weight drain roy jones. Now look at floyd resumes Corrales, Castillo, Chavez, Hernandez, Leija, Gatti, Judah, De la hoya, Mosley, Marquez.
