Chael is one of the few guys in the sport who genuinely will fight anyone at any time. Unlike Calzaghe. He is also one of the smartest fighters out there - he recognized that if he wanted to give himself a chance at realizing the goals he had in his career, then he was going to have to set himself apart from the pack and make people want to follow his career one way or the other.

He has not done anything that hasn't been done in boxing for decades. When Jack Dempsey was an unknown vagrant walking into a bar and loudly declaring that he could whip any man in the room and he didn't give a **** how tough they thought they were, what was the difference between that and what Chael has done? Dempsey would fight any of them, knowing he had a good chance of getting his ass kicked in front of everyone. So will Chael. :blood

When Ali realized that he was good at running his mouth and that the more he did it and the more people hated him the more they would go out of their way to watch him fight, what was the difference between that and when Chael realized the same thing?

Sure you can pour **** on him for his TRT use, and I don't defend him for doing that. But it's not like he's the only one. Hendo and Belfort are both longtime TRT users, Wandy and Shogun both roided worse than Chael ever did, and you don't give a **** about any of them getting their best performances out of the end of a needle. :-(

Truth be told, I think you just hate Chael 'cause he's white. :yep

Did you watch him on TUF? He came off COMPLETELY different from your perception of him. Everything he is when he's talking **** to hype a fight, he was the opposite of that when coaching. He was quiet, thoughtful, intelligent, insightful and respectful. He clearly had a lot of love for his fighters and genuinely wanted to help them with their careers, which is more than half the big-name coaches the show has had can say. And they responded to him. Even ****in' Jon Jones was saying how he had developed respect for Chael and even liked him as a man.

You are of course free to support or dislike anyone you want. But don't pretend that your emotional biases don't cloud your judgement of Chael. He is a better fighter than you give him credit for, more professional than you give him credit for, and a better man as well. :good

****, that post ended up 3x longer than anticipated.

And yet you love Nick Diaz. Want to talk about respect and professionalism?

    * Diaz disrespects the **** out of seemingly every opponent he faces, both inside and outside the cage. It seems he can't take a fight without making it personal. Even against GSP, who is pretty much the epitome of respect and professionalism in the sport.

    * He disrespects his employer by repeatedly ignoring his contractual obligations and costing them tens of thousands of dollars simply because he can't be ****ed doing simple promotional **** that every other fighter does.

    * He disrespects his fans by no-showing events that he agreed to participate in.

    * He disrespects the sport by bringing a thuggish street-punk attitude to a sport which is still working to establish mainstream acceptance.

    * His swearing and taunting and *****-slapping inside the cage is highly unprofessional.

    * His inevitable fits of sulking and crying and blaming everybody except himself every time he loses is highly unprofessional and disrespectful.

    * He gets an undeserved title shot coming off not only a loss but also a suspension, simply because he made people care about seeing him fight GSP after running his mouth against Georges for months.

    * His self-pitying attitude and total lack of accountabilty for himself is unmatched by any other fighter at the highest levels of the sport.

And none of this matters a damned thing to you. Indeed you love it and compliment him about how "real" he is. Well you can't talk about how much "respect" means to you, and then turn around and talk about how much you like a guy who is hands down the most disrespectful mother****er in the sport today. :-(

    Almost 20 minutes this time.

I'll save you some trouble eh. I'm going to watch a movie in the living room now, so I won't be online for a couple of hours. If you start checking every five minutes starting about 2 hours from now, you might catch me again. But you'll be disappointed until then. :good

  6. Sonnen got an undeserved title shot coming off of a previous title shot against Anderson Silva simply because people cared about hearing him run his mouth against Anderson Silva for a year or more.

If you're going to give a title shot to someone right after losing a title shot in a lower weight class, MMA will never be viewed as a true sport. The only time someone should get a title shot simply because they can talk **** and sell PPV's is in the WWE.

UFC needs to establish true rankings and create fights based on that criteria. Not because someone talks a bunch of ****. Diaz and Sonnen are both turds who never deserved to get the fights they were handed.

Well, I would never have given Chael a shot at Bones, that's number one.

Number two, they've just introduced a rankings system which (I believe) is determined by MMA journalists. (Not sure about that one though)

Number three, the Sonnen fight was not any worse than Diaz getting a shot at GSP. Like it or not, a big part of the sport IS promotion, and Sonnen understands that and goes above and beyond to get the word out. When he stepped into the cage vs GSP, Diaz was coming off a loss and a suspension and hadn't won a fight for 18 monts, and that was against an undersized and past-prime BJ Penn. But Koa wants to see that fight, so it's fine. Just like he likes Diaz, so Diaz gets a pass for all his moronic, totally unprofessional, disrespectful, crybaby bull****. :good

And yeah, there were not really any clear challengers for Jones at the time. Hendo is the closest to that, but he was already lined up to fight Jones before completely ****ing the UFC over by spending weeks knowingly concealing a serious knee injury until the last second, ultimately forcing the unprecedented cancellation of an entire PPV card. This was a big financial hit and a massive PR humiliation for the UFC, so it's understandable that he doesn't get rewarded for it by getting an immediate title shot as soon as he healed up. :bart

What it comes down to is that Hendo ****ed them over, and Chael was willing to step up and bail them out at the last second. (And yeah, he almost certainly knew about Hendo's knee before Dana did.) After Hendo pulled out they wanted to bump Jones back to the next PPV and they offered a title shot to Machida, but the Dragon disappointingly turned them down. So Hendo is injured/****ed them over and Machida turned down a title shot. Who is left for Jones to fight? Might as well reward a guy who has consistently demonstrated that he's willing to go above and beyond when it comes to helping promote and market the brand. But yeah, I wouldn't want them to make a habit of doing fights like that. :good

You are comparing Nick Diaz to Chael Sonnen. Two guys with shitty attitudes, one guy who spews **** out of his mouth for self promotion, the other guy **** spews out of his mouth because he's in part moron, but also part mental. I'm not saying there is no responsibility for Nick Diaz to take, he's a douche bag at times.. But you cannot possibly ignore the psychological issues, I mean he's clearly a nutcase. But, he's also tough dude who likes to scrap with very nice, refined bjj. There's a lot to like about Nick Diaz as a fighter in my book because he also fights to finish. It's no secret why I like Nick Diaz, I like guys who FIGHT. :!: I've been preaching this **** since day one.

You know, I criticize GSP for not being a finisher but I held onto being a huge fan of his for a very long time. I still respect his fighting game, because I respect his work ethic and staying determination to remain champion. He is a champion of a person, I've stuck up for him when it came to people calling him a ***** for backing out against a possible Silva fight. I've given him credit for not being a monster who cuts massive amounts of weight to have a huge factor of 1000 like John Jones or Anderson Silva who I have been critical of at times as well. I've explained why it doesn't make sense for GSP to be called a ***** for not taking on the massive Anderson Silva, when in reality Anderson is closer to Jones in size than he is to GSP.

I think I even called Anderson Silva a potential ***** for that lol. :D

I like guys who fight. I know Wand and Rua and a lot of guys form Pride were juicing, but they didn't go and call out Lance Armstrong, and make a big schpeil about how horrible and small a person he is for cheating lol. Who put their **** out there like he did only to have it stuffed in his mouth and forced to eat it. Then people still listen to this **** talker fraud? :!: And he gets title shots? Is this a sport? Or WW fíng E? There are guys who would have taken that fight and given him a better fight than Sonnen, but Sonnen was more interesting and brought in more dough, so they pushed that instead. Even you were hyping him up, don't lie! You were all about how huuuge he was.. I remember lol.

I've gone above and beyond in my display of love for Mirko Filipovic. I think I showed my man crush for him with a bit of nostalgia, didn't I? :thumbsup
