Ricky Burns: ''We couldn't get much footage of him'' said after the fight

Even in the clips I could find on youtube you could tell Gonzalez was trouble for Burns' style. I find it hard to believe that his team couldn't see this as well.

Burns really disappointed. It would've been an easy win for Vazquez, if they fought instead.

I already though Vazquez was going to win, but I didn't think it would've been easy. Burns' win tells me Vazquez would have an easy night, akin to his schooling of Gesta.

 

Looks like Burns was having a hard time with a slick boxer moving and countering. But when the slick boxer decided to fight mano o mano the slickster was struggling.

Burns was getting his a$$ handed to him. He is soooo lucky.

People don't seem to realise that a championship boxing match is over 12 rounds, not 7. It's meaningless if JG can't maintain his panache over the later, and especially the championship rounds - this is something he manifestly failed to do. Burns was winning the later rounds.

The scorecards by the time of the stoppage were 87-84 (I believe) - does anyone really believe that JG would have won the later rounds? So all things being equal Burns would have gained a draw and remained champion - or, if he scored a KD - not unfeasible - he would have won outright.

Burns didn't look particularly good in the early rounds - it's something to learn from and he'll come back stronger; one thing about Burns is that he can learn and better himself. It's how he got to where he is today.

However: grit, determination, fitness, physicality, mental strength - these are are all qualities of boxing and it's qualities that JG lacked and Burns had / has in abundance. Burns won this fairly - no need for a rematch just to appease the prejudicial amongst us.

What you said doesn't make any sense whatsoever - JG 'punching' himself out is failure of his physicality and conditioning - Burns delivered an array of power shots, especially an uppercut that had JG grimacing in the same round. The difference is that Burns recovered and JG didn't - that's a testimony to Burns' boxing ability.

To be frank, people are denigrating Burns at the expense of adequately praising JG's skillset - JG showed he's potentially world class in this fight and will probably win a title at some point.

 

Gonzalez pretty much had that world title fastened round his waist. Then his foolishness in the 7th was basically him taking it off and giving it back to Burns. Gonzalez beat himself that night.

Thank God Broner never got hold of Burns.

Martinez is a world class boxer and Burns beat him.

Also the whole "if" argument is kinda bull****.

If Pacquiao hadnt have jumped in in the last 10 seconds of a round,Marquez wouldnt have KO'd him.

Theres a million "ifs" in boxing.

There fact is,that gonzalez DID have bad stamina. something he shouldnt have a problem with,coming into a world title fight.

Burns won fair and square under the rules of boxing.
