I like Ricky Burns. He might not be anything special but he comes to fight. Say what you will but one thing is a fact..He keeps winning.

He got outclassed by a very talented/skilled fighter. No shame in that. He at least showed the professionalism and stuck around long enough for Gonzalez to throw the fight away.

His reach isn't as freakish as Gonzalez

Roles reversed and Burns quit in PR, there would be two men and their dog awaiting his return to Glasgow airport and he'd probably have to get a taxi back to coatbridge

That was by far the worst performance i have seen from Burns, he was forcing absolutely everything and looked lacklustre, this whilst facing an unknown commodity who had big power, fast hands, long arms and a skillset more than adequate to hold his own. Mark of a true champion that he bit down hard on his gumshield and came through the other side. Broner fans in this thread have a short memory, Ponce De Leon anybody???

DeMarco and a dubious decision over Ponce de Leon are probably his best wins.

Martinez, Katsidis and Mitchell aren't exactly miles behind those guys,

Last time I checked, the goal of a fight was to win. If you can outlast your opponent and get a t/ko due to better stamina and/or pacing, you get a win.

I'm no Burns apologist, but he's hardly the first guy to have early problems against a guy and have to pull a fight out late.

2cm difference. I'd call that negligible.

    Great post Jeff.
No one's pretending he was impressive the other night, but he's not the first belt holder to have a unexpectedly tough night.
Vasquez v Quintera springs to mind although there are several other examples.
