Why is Matthysse-Peterson at 141 lbs?

So Peterson gets to keep his IBF belt should he lose.

But the official excuse is that a 141 catchweight allows Matthysse to keep the precious interim belt that will give him a shot at Garcia. Ignoring the fact that, because of this tournament, he should be getting his shot at Garcia (if he beats Peterson) regardless of the stupid interim belt. In fact, because of the interim belt he already holds, he should have his shot at Garcia right now without even having to deal with a juiced-up Peterson.

 

Its a reason I'm uninterested in this fight.

 

I wonder what other allowances will be made for Cheaterson in future fights?

 

Matthysses team wanted it so they could stay mandatory for Garcia.

No. Obviously because Petersons title is not on the line. Matthyysse Interim is irrelevant because it is not a proper title.

I've no time for convicted drug cheats and to be honest Peterson and his team seem to be getting an awful lot benefits despite the fact the guy basically cheated not that long ago.

 

Does it really matter? It's a great fight. Fans constantly slag off the titles and say how meaningless they are, then complain over bull**** like this. No one knows the reason why its at 141lbs, of course people will blame Peterson without knowing the facts. If he beats Matthysse (I think he will) it will then be fans saying he's cheating. There always will be an excuse for Matthysse when he loses, for some reason.

 

It sounds shady to me, Matthysse will KO Peterson brutally and Crispy will make his excuses and vacate and move to 147 and fight another GBP fighter.

 

Of course it matters. A world title holder should be made to put his title on the line every time he fights. Not conveniently go up one pound so he can keep it if he loses it.

Matthysse's someone who, through his interim title that he's already holding, should be facing Garcia next anyway. He shouldn't have to fight Peterson to get through to him. But he's being made to. He should then, at the very least, be given the opportunity to bag a world title for his troubles. But he's not.

Peterson wins - gets to take his IBF with him in a bid to unify against Garcia
Peterson loses - he's still a world champion

Matthysse wins - doesn't win anything, apart from the shot at Garcia (something he's supposed to have already)
Matthysse loses - he goes home with nothing, and a shot at Garcia gone forever

^^ Sounds like Peterson gets the better end of the deal, to me.

 

Has Matthysse complained about any of this? Seems fans who have no solid facts are complaining and blaming Peterson yet the man himself has no problem with the fight.
As a fan I don't care about the straps, I just want to see good fights. The fighters are happy, I'm happy. It's a damn good fight and 1lb with no belts means nothing to me.
Lucas Matthysse is with Al Haymon, if they had any problems with this catchweight it's pretty obvious Al would put a stop to it.
