There is no way Terrell was better than Gerrie Coetzee. Especialy the Terrell that Williams beat who had already lost 3 times without fighting a name fighter. That version of Terrell so obviously had not found his feet as a fighter unless johnny gray and wayne bethea were somehow better than all the other contenders Terrell would later beat. Terrell was a kid and he even beat Williams back. Drawing with Machen is no great shakes. How much kudos does Coetzee ever get for drawing with Pinklon Thomas? machen aso drew with elmer rush, Zorra Folley and was KOd by ingo Johannson within a round.

Do you think that Coetze was at his best when Bruno beat him?

On the subject of Liston, and criticism of him. If it wasn't for a young Cassius Clay coming along how long could he of stayed champ and who would of eventually taken the title from him.

His skills might have greatly deteriorated, but he still could punch like a mule could kick.

Power stays with fighters until a very late age, usually even long past their retirement. Like was said, too many fighters testified that he was one of the hardest punchers to simply brush aside.

Ali, Liston, Foreman, Chuvalo...these guys all know power when they feel it, and they all said Williams had tons of it.

#1 WBA contender Gerrie Coetzee was closer to championship level when Bruno beat him than Terrell ever was at the time he lost to Williams. Ernie was losing fights to regular opponents and had not found his feet as a pro when he first met the big Cat.

joe frazier by ko, joe frazier would have taken the title from liston in 1967 if clay never existed

Liston was a super man during 1960-62 but had so few pro rounds that by the 1964 clay fight it is clear sonny would have struggled with any top fighter good enough to take him past 5 rounds or so. If Ali never existed it would have been interesting to see Sonny face Ernie Terrell, Doug Jones and George Chuvalo in 1964.

yes,a young chuvalo strong like a solid rock would have been interesting, but i picked a sure winner, and he is smokin joe

FUNNY BECAUSE EVEN TODAY IN 2013 YOU CAN SEE SOME TROLLS PICKING LISTON 67 OVER FRAZIER O SAYING THAT IT WOULD BE A 50/50 FIGHT hahah, prime vs prime frazier would have destroyed liston.

Foreman also said an old Sonny was the only fighter ever to back him up with a jab. Liston kept Patterson down twice in less than a round, so that attests to his power. I think Foreman and Liston were similar in power output.

Of course being the #1 WBA contender dosn't necisarily put you at the top of the division.

Where was Coetze in the Ring Rankings?

Higher than kid Terrell was after losing to wayne bethea and johnny gray! Terrell only made the ratings once he could beat contenders, he had yet to reach that point when meeting williams. Coetzee on the otherhand was #6 in the Ring ratings as well as being #1 WBA contender when fighting Bruno. Gerrie Coetzee registered in the annual Ring ratings every year from 1977 until he met Bruno in march 86.

foreman was 18 when he sparred with a 225 pounder experienced liston, and the sparring sessions were close, a prime liston weighed 208 pounds.. prime vs prime foreman would have knocked him the **** out, a no, liston was not even close how powerful as foreman, and patterson was a 188 fragile pounder, foreman would have killed patterson probably in 30 seconds please... joe frazier was another animal, horrible comment
