In a way that's what makes it more honest though. Everyone into doing lists(arseholes all should aspire to do a peak inherent ability list.If only to see how much it differs from an attempt at a more balanced criteria(this only including fighters we're rating primariliy due to our thoughts on their footage not writing) I don't think it should change THAT much imo, just a difference here and there...a drop or rise in places for a few etc.At least not if you're only going up to 50 or so. Then things could change considerably after that.
I think it would look crazily different tbh. For example, Greb, Langford, Charles and Fitzsimmons would have to come out of my top ten. Benny Leonard, Mickey Walker, George Dixon, Terry McGovern, Packey McFarland slip out of the twenty. WTF do you do about guys like Sandy Saddler? Ketchel, Holman Williams and Joe Walcott take a bird from the top thirty. That's nearly half the top thirty needing to be replaced.
aye you're right if we're talking ALL fighters, it would make a massive difference.I was more meaning all the sufficiently filmed types, as i said.it would be unfair to penalise the others, so that's usually just who i'm referring to when talking those sort of lists and comparisons.
Zarate and Gomez go rocketing up, that kind of **** is really weird, then you have to introduce dudes like Canizales and ****ing....Antonio Esparragoza. I don't even want to think about it. Plus, Morales and Barrera go top 40.
I wouldn't have the last three in my top 100. They are all fighters that do better for me on a balanced list.
Actually make that top 80 or so.I forget how many would be taken out of the equation when we're just talking about filmed fighters.
Haha you do surprise me. Pernell Whitaker Wilfredo Gomez Sugar Ray Henry Armstrong Ray Leonard Muhammad Ali Joe Louis Joe Frazier Roberto Duran Willie Pep Ricardo Lopez Orlando Canizales Charley Burley Carlos Zarate Roy Jones Julio Cesar Chavez Kid Gavilan Jose Napoles Tony Canzoneri Alexis Arguello Michael Spinks Thomas Hearns Manny Pacquiao I guess I would put these guys above Monzon, Tyson, Charles. Certainly Locche. Tyson would be next I guess, in the next lot, probably with Monzon and Hagler, but that's ****ed up, because Monzon and Hagler would both crush Hearns and possibly they would beat Burley and ****ing Robinson, too. So I don't know what it's all about really.
On the film, I think Olivares looks better than Harada and Jofre. Very little in it mind. But that sense of menace just barely tips it over the edge for Olivares for me.
Fair enough....one guy that I always think should be there with anyone in the "eye" criteria is Joey Archer....maybe I´m pushing it too far here ? Anyone else feel like Archer was absolute elite on film, in terms of skills and all ?
btw i went back through Morales whole career recently and thoroughly enjoyed it.Tried to re-assess him a bit. A massively entertaining and really good, at times excellent fighter. But i don't see that sort of special talent some do.He certainly wouldn't have been a multi-weight champ above 126 without the junior classes and soft\fading champs to pick on and as a feather he's in the same rough bracket as the really good ones like the guys that surrounded Saldivar, danny Lopez(who i'd pick him to beatmore often than not) etc Really good, but quite flawed and an overachiever due to fighting in an era which favours such things as weightjumping and splinter champs.
