I think he'll put on a good performance, Alexander is overrated IMO, Brook would beat him.

Purdy is getting stopped! im Sorry but he was hurt in the last bout and the "stoppage" saved his blushes. Although not a big puncher (iv never taken a punch from him but assuming lol) I can see Alexander outclassing and breaking him down via accumulation of punishment

So then really the correct terminology wouldn't be "Purdy has a puncher's chance" so much as "Purdy has a being taken lightly and has enough punch to make good if given a freebie chance" :good

The former makes it sound like Alexander will be on the razor's edge all night and Purdy will only need to plunk him once to scramble his circuits, which isn't exactly accurate. It would take extreme carelessness on Alexander's part or having not trained up to snuff in order for Purdy to put his above-average but not thunderous (at this level) power to use.

    You never know...

This forum would implode if he pulled it off.

His only chance is to bully Alexander and make him negative, like Bradley did.

    Would it?

Alexander isn't exactly a massive star, even here in the US.

It wouldn't exactly be like Purdy kayoing Broner or some like.

It would be an impressive upset, but it would hardly be the sort of cataclysmic event to crash the ESB servers.

Purdy's not very good. He was beaten comfortably by Colin Lynes. It's a terrible mismatch.

@ domestic, he is quite good. He improved greatly since Lynes and was already up there with the country's best even prior. (the first Watson upset could no longer be written off as some fluke after the rematch)

He looked brilliant against Gumer Carrasco, who isn't a world-beater and wasn't ready for such a leap (and is barely a top 5 Argie welter) but is/was a decent enough prospect.

I think the odds are correct on this mismatch.About a 15-1 underdog with little to no chance at all.

Pavlik v Lockett, Cotto v Jennings, Broner v Rees all spring to mind.

    Alexander UD, I don't like Purdy's chances.

That has nothing to do with the post you quoted.

me neither but it would be nice if a brit fighter as a massive underdog went and turned someone over against the odds
