Would prime Juan Diaz be the best LW in the world today?

Juan Diaz was an underrated fighter who beat some very solid fighters, was p4p ranked and unified the LW division. Also gave Marquez all he could handle. People forget that baby bull was a beast and he's only 29 years old and has a chance of coming back to rule 135 if he can comfortably make weight imo.

In his prime do you think he could rule over today's LW's?

Ricky Burns and Miguel Vazquez?


I think in his prime he def rules this era and that if he gets back in serious shape that he has a chance to rule the division right now even though he's past prime.

Keep in mind poll results are just about prime Diaz but I would be interested to hear whether yall feel he can get back to form and take over LW again as well.

bro he retired Freitas, gave Marquez one of the toughest fights of his career and unified the division, I'm guessing you weren't a boxing fan when Juan was on the rise.

Acelino Freitas!!! (beats anything on Burns or Vazquez resume)
prime Julio Diaz (not the blown up shot version that just came close to upsetting Khan)
undefeated Jose Miguel Cotto ( Miguels hard hitting bro dude that rocked Canelo who is naturally 3 divisions higher than him)
also a couple good fighters in Billy Kid Irwin and Francissco Lorenzo

Diaz walks through Burns hes nothing more than European level, but Vazquez would give Diaz hell too much talent but if it's in Texas who knows!

 

IMO yes. World class champion with good fundamentals and uncommon speed & aggression. I have no doubt he'd outbox and/or outwork Burns.

i'm a little surprised that half the people voting don't think he can pressure Vazquez enough. I think he can cut off the ring against Vazquez and throw enough to wear him down and win a decision.

I picked Juan to lose to Vasquez, but beat Burns.

But it's not like Juan was elite or anything. Could not even beat Paulie.(I don't think there is anyone that really believes Diaz won the first one.)

 

IMO, Diaz has great workrate and his handspeed is up there, but he has as much power as Mercito Gesta, and he's a bit short in order to catch-up to both Abril and Vazquez.

Broner might deal him punishment whenever he comes in like how Campbell beat him.

Burns maybe. I'm not that impressed with him yet.

So as good as he was, I think at this period he'll be top 5, but not top-tier like he did mid 2000.
