Who would you of put him in with for a 10-round keey busy fight? I guarntee you can't come up with a better name than Carson Jones thats actually realistic
What is your definition of realistic?....off the top of my head, Vargas, Mike Jones, ****, even Provodnikov....we even have a welterweight at home who I think would love a shot at Brook.
It doesn't really matter how long Brook has been a pro though. His best with is either Carson Jones or Matthew Hatton, so he still has a long way to go before he's ready for the best in the division. A pro for 8 years should be ready but he's only fought 16 times since 2006. That's nowhere near enough, I don't think, and it's why his progress has been stalled. When he needed that jump to British and European level, he was too inactive and it hurt his progress. He's on the right track now but that doesn't mean to say he should be rushed because, in an ideal world, he would be at world level now. Hearn should continue to build him up properly until the time is right.
It's a comeback fight from injury, guy hasn't boxed in months. Not going to throw him in with Provodnikov are they? Maybe for September fight but not this one Vargas would not come over here for a 10 round fight Mike Jones is a good shout actually. Wanted to see that fight a few years ago, his stock has fallen after the Bailey fight but it'd be a good fight for both
They aren't realistic opponent for a 10 round fight to lose any ring rust though. Mike Jones is a good fighter and Provodnikov just gave Bradley a tough fight, so he's obviously not the right opponent. Jessie Vargas is alright but he's an unbeaten prospect, so he's not going to come over to fight Brook. All three of those fights would be far more expensive than a Jones fight too.
I don't think Jessie Vargas,Mike Jones or Ruslan Provodnikov would be interested in coming to the UK for a 10 rounder in Hull with Kell Brook. They're the kind of opponents we want to see him in with of course but they're not realistic unless the fights either in the states or there's a world title shot on the line.
Of course people know, its not for a title so its over 10 rounds, whats the problem? I find it strange that Brook was all set to fight a world champion tomorrow but will only take on a B- class fighter in Jones in 7 weeks time. I think that Brooks team has lost confidence in him
It's more of an issue with inactivity but also overtraining. Brook won't be at his best in his next fight, so why risk putting him in with a fighter who is too good? If Brook wasn't coming off an injury, long training camps and inactivity, I'd agree with you but for those reasons, Brook is deserving of a straight forward fight.
So why do people keep complaining about his opponent? Jones took brook to measures hes never been before? If anything people should be killing hearn for making this fight brooks comeback fight. Its a ten rounder.. Hasnt fought since october last year.. If hearn brought in a journeyman to face brook in a ten rounder i wouldnt complain.. We've seen what happens to the majority of boxers when your out for a long time and come back vs a quite dangerous opponent. E.g ricky burns vs Jose gonzalez. Jones may not be number 1 pound for pound best, but he knows hes way around the ring and can punch. So people just need to stop moaning, this is the best fight brook could of gotten at this stage.
I'm sorry, but we are going to have to disagree....This isn't "an easy fight", its the bog standard of fight that we've come to expect from Brook, which is very disappointing
I think its an acceptable fight when you consider the injury, length of inactivity, 2 training camps since his last fight etc. He has to beat Jones convincingly though and the following fight has to be for a belt or if that route is blocked then it has to be a top 5 ranked opponent
When Brook first faced Jones it was seen as a step up in quality against a tough, proven gatekeeper. Now the rematch is a straight forward 10 rounder and is only happening because Brook needs to remove some ring rust. It is a disappointing fight but only if you ignore all the reasons why it's happening. Brook was all signed to fight Alexander, a much better opponent than Jones, and I'm sure after he's beaten Jones, he'll be looking to fight a world class opponent. Hopefully Alexander.
I think this is a decent fight to see if he really has made improvements. Especially physically, he lost some strength in the first fight. Not sure I love the Diaz fight, but unfortunately Brook's lost a little credibility now - so it might be neccessary to fight a guy like Diaz to gain it back. Especially if he dismantled him.
