It's more to do with the manner in which Peterson takes it to him. Sure, jumping on him from the opening bell and remaining toe-to-toe with him throughout, will benefit the better chinned and harder punching guy. But I don't expect Peterson to do that. I reckon he'll go to war with him in spots - kind of what Alvarado was doing with Rios in the second fight. He'll box (trying to time) Lucas for the most part to limit his success, and then I think he'll explode in bursts to upset his rhythm. If he has Lucas confused and deterred by the later rounds, I think he'll up the tempo and it'll be interesting to see how Lucas reacts to it.
If I'm remembering Peterson-Holt correctly, I didn't like Peterson's focus on single shots (can't remember if this was just early or not, I'll have to rewatch). He definitely can't do this against Matthysse IMO, but that may have just been ring rust/nerves.
I've not seen the full fight (only spots of it), but I noticed him planting his feet and throwing single haymakers. Is that what you're referring to? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-CW6x4IoZs [yt]V-CW6x4IoZs[/yt]
Yeah, I think rust and nerves was the reason for it, don't necessarily think it was his tactics. But hope he starts quicker than he usually does because I'm expecting Matthysse to be as relentless as always.
He did, didn't he. Stopped Lucas in his track quite a few times... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hysQ5RYN5HM This content is protected
Peterson is going to take the fight to Lucas especially on the inside where he can smother his power. He will outwork Lucas to a UD win.
Interesting, well not really.I can see peterson having the tools to cause matthysse problems & vice versa. He's too flat footed though doesn't look anywhere near as good as he did vs khan/ortiz which he still got dropped 2x.Ring rust, no more juice?.......maybe both Idk he better find away to protect that chin/body Lucas throwing bombs.Should be a good one.
I'm hearing Matthysse just arrived in the US two days ago, which is really late for a fight. Hopefully he will not be too affected by that late arrival. Heads are talking that this will be a big factor in the fight due to Matthysse having side effects of travel and environment acclimation.
True, he does appear more flat-footed in recent fights. But that's probably because he was being the hunter as opposed to the hunted? He's does have the ability to box and move against a bigger puncher - as proved against Ortiz. But honestly, I don't think Peterson will be phased by the physical nature of Matthysse. He's a big puncher, but when it comes to physical size and weight, don't be surprised to see Peterson standing his ground and getting the better of him when smothering his work. We're forgetting the fact that Peterson is actually the bigger and more heavier guy. Matthysse is pretty short and doesn't weigh that much. On fight night a I reckon Peterson might have 4 or 5 pounds on him.
