What about $ advertising the fight, the undercard fighters, personnel at the arena, insurance/fees, etc. There is no way in hell Showtime made money on that fight. They are probably paying Mayweather $100 million over what he is worth.

 

Normally the promoter gets that, not the network. But here the network is playing promoter by paying the PPV fighter, so it's unclear. GBP doesn't work for free, but at this point SHO and GBP are one and the same

Yep Showtime could have definitely put that $32 million to better use with better fights. Hell $32 million is about the ceiling on what Floyd should make fighting Canelo, the biggest fight outside of Pac-FMJ; Assuming Canelo makes $20 million and we can guess about a 1.5-1.7 million PPV. You might be looking at $100-$110 million, even then after expenses Showtime will not make a lot of money. The funny thing is they will probably have to pay Floyd closer to $45-$50 million if he fights Canelo. There is probably no profit in it for them.

I honestly can't see Showtime's angle on paying Floyd what they are. It's like a guarantee of losing money.

fans need to re-evaluate if they continue buying expensive ppv fights of a grossly overpaid, boring boxer. well if the under 1 million ppv buys is true then it's showing fans are starting to realize that it's money not well spent

 

it wont have an impact on Floyd just the other fights on regular showtime

I understand boxing and can appreciate watching a master boxer display his skills. I have no big appetite for and will not pay to see class B fighters. It's a matter of taste. Id rather have one Bugatti Veyron in my garage than twenty beaters in the driveway. What's needed here is a school to educate the uninformed on the science in the art of boxing. Hit and not get hit. That shouldn't be to hard to understand. You fight when it's needed, and you move when needed but you box all the time. You are thinking all the time. It's beautiful to watch when it's done right and nobody does it better than Mayweather. That's what I pay to see.:bbb
