Bunce article on Purdy

Pointless article to be honest.

 

So whats purdy suppose to do, turn the fight down ? At least hes taking a chance sometimes the underdog wins. It just sounds like hes having a little indirect dig at hearns

 

Alexander been ignored by Pacquaio and Mayweather and is arguably the most avoided fighter in boxing. I like buncey but what the ****, Alexander the most avoided fighter in boxing

No I'd say the opposite. After Purdy's latest farce on the scales I think it goes easy him and is a more than fair assessment of his right to be in this fight in the first place. What is amiss is the overrating of Alexander

Well since the Bunce article was correct in stating that Purdy had been rather falsely engineered into a position to take this fight, I'd say the promoter should expect some ****. The excuse from the promoter is that Purdy was only half a pound out and he only had 4 weeks to take the fight. But if 4 weeks was a push for a guy who has previous for this kind of thing then Purdy shouldn't have shunted into this position in the first place.

Now Purdy's promoter has been mugged off in front of Golden Boy, who have grown more and more impatient with him. That's the least of his worries on this particular event anyway. The boss man at the network is none too pleased apparently

 

I don't doubt that Bunceys article is correct, its more the fact that its hypocritical beyond beleif. Only yesterday I listened to the Williams Hill podcast and he was slating other boxing journos for talking the way he does. Add to that, he went above and beyond to defend simular fights in the past like Jennings v Cotto & Lockett v Pavlik.

Purdy is probably getting what he has been paid for every title figt he has had so far put together. About £100k. Nobody in that situation would turn it down. The IBF just need better rankings.

i actually dont mind buncey but at the minute it looks to me like hes trying to get a dig in at matchroom or there fighters at any oppurtunity, he was slagging matchroom fighters not so long ago for not going on his show, had a dig at eddie mid week about the ryder saunders purse bids, now having a pop at purdy, looks to me like its a boxnation matchroom beef

 

Yeah its a little harsh but I don't think Bunce is going to be too inclined to sugar coat his views on Purdy, since Purdy didnt go on any of his shows, apparently Buncey asked him a few times and got blanked, so you can't expect a cheerleading spin on this, he is a massive underdog and in the last few years it has been a trend.

 

Was thinking the same. Was starting to think I'd missed a few of his fights the way bunce was talking him up.

Agree what everyone else has said Lee would of been very stupid to turn this down. I didn't think he would get close to a title fight and this one just fell in his lap.

Fair article IMO. I know Hearn likes to do his business differently to let's say FW, but there is a lot to be said for getting your stable titles such as the WBO and steadily defending, building up a career of class improvement and being in a position to get top fighters to come to your backyard.

I've said it before, but sending fighters to places like the US is good for a big payday, though I can't help thinking they sell themselves short. I'm glad there are 4 versions of the world title, it levels the playing field financially and prolongs some good careers.

Purdy is taking his opportunity, hopefully he'll make a good account of himself and come away a better fighter. He has only had 4 weeks notice and the temptation to take his chance must be far too great to turn down. Unfortunately, he hasn't made the weight, but opportunity still knocks, he'll only lose 10% of a reported $150,000 (£99,000) purse. Play it safe, a good nifty plan and walk away head held high.

 

The article is pretty much fair comment.....apart from the bigging up of Alexander

 

In my opinion Purdy is the mandatory challenger via default. Brook is injured (again), and Kevin Bizier declined the opportunity to take the bout at short notice. With the two fighters above are unable/unwilling to fight, Purdy essentially is elevated to the position of number one challenger.
