Like I explained about Hearns . . . the old-timers call it getting your man muscles. People progress at different rates, In elementary i was always one of the fastest guys in town . . . I trained as hard as the next guy but there was others who ended up blowing me away come high-school. Once these other guys started to catch-up and passing in me as the years went on I went on to the hurdles. you need technique in hurdles 10x in sprinting so there I was easily able to out perform and blow away the same guys there as in the 100m.

Power and speed are raw and can be refined but they come naturally. You cannot teach one punch KO power. KO power is like the sprinter, the master boxer is like the hurdler where technique is more important. Mayweather, while strong does not have KO power, but he can break you down with his skill and take you out it he wants you too.

some fighters appear to lose power as they move up because they are fighting bigger guys who can handle the power they can generate. that does not mean they are less powerful, it only means that they are fighting tougher guys. They added mass makes fighters lose speed and quickness but they may appear even faster than men who are naturally bigger.

Ya they do, DB, if they were raised in a gym, bleed boxing, trained diligently 'n were realistic 'n made the most of what they had. Many became contenders, or even won fringe titles...but chasing the Holy Grail of KO power is naive, at best

I would say they are made.

We are all born the same, then the way you are raised, your temperament, your attitude, your anger, your intentions, all shape up the power you generate. If we get technical, also your legs can generate power for you. Have you seen that guy Michael Farenas calves and legs?

There is no gene that makes us hit harder than others. That would be scientifically false. Bone structure may be a factor, but I don't think it is.

Athletes are not born, they are made. Michael Jordan didn't make his High School basketball team. With practice, he eventually became, possibly the GOAT in the NBA.

Both made and natural. Anyone can be taught to punch properly. Everyone is different, with different body mechanics, but using the same basic principles of leverage anybody can learn to punch hard. Shot placement, setting your punches up, and who your fighting has alot to do whether you'll be affective or not, but anyone can be taught. Yes, there are naturally strong people that can arm punch very hard, but a much weaker person can also have a similar as devastating affect when they are taught correctly. Seen it so many times.

Fair dos. But in that case, what they had was tenacity, discipline, hunger, ambition, toughness... and a lot more of all of these than the average dude in the street, right, John? Cause if they hadn't had that, they'd have been sitting on their ass watching boxers on the TV rather than hit the gym every day. So they had something to build on in the first place, even if it wasn't power, chin, athleticism and speed, no?

    Born.
It's genetics, some people can run faster some can jump higher and some can punch harder or faster.
You don't say oh everyone can punch as fast as Roy Jones jr if they just practice and use the correct form it'll help but you wont be as fast as him cause it's in his genetics to be fast.

All that 'n buck 'n quarter will getya on a bus, KJ, but it won't generate KO power. You're either a home run hitter or a singles hitter.

So tired of that gym fable that keeps being dredged-up that Hearns couldn't punch as an amateur, 'n Manny Steward built him into a KO puncher as a pro.

It was common knowledge in boxing circles, as an amateur Tommy was knockin' over buildings in daily wars with Kronk's snarling beasts. But Manny Steward's master plan was just to win three-round amateur bouts: keep his distance, use his legs, keep spearing with his mile-long piston jab, pile-up points 'n have his hand raised. But, as a pro, Manny unleashed the Kraken.

Born. Take myself for example, I was born a natural puncher. I just always had it, its not fair that I just always had that respect in the streets as a natural puncher where others had to try to work so hard for respect but life isnt fair.
