Shawn Porter vs. Phil Lo Greco, 10 rounds @ light middleweight

 

Round 1

Lo Greco throws a quick left hook and then backs out. Porter flurries at him jumping in. Lo Greco blocks most of them on his arms but is getting outworked. A few high jabs from outside but is mostly getting shied by Porter's flashes of hand speed in combination despite Porter without much accuracy or power. Lo Greco keeps the guard up, catching Porter's light punches on his forearms. Porter switches to the body, squatting and reaching in to flurry. Lo Greco sweeps a low hook and grazes Porter's belly. Porter flashes a counter combo.

Earlier on the non-televised undercard, Lamont Peterson's brother Anthony (remember him? The guy who parachuted his way out of a beating at the hands of Brandon Rios with excessive fouls) returned from an eighteen month layoff and beat a Californian journeyman by TKO2.

 

Round 2

Lo Greco is covering up and getting pushed to the ropes, where Porter scoops in both fists against his sides and drums quick straight combos off his face when Lo Greco's wrists drift apart or lower towards his aching midsection. Porter is keeping Lo Greco completely shut down offensively by keeping active with his fast hands. 1-2-3 by Porter, rocking Lo Greco back.

Despite their records' outward appearance, Phil Lo Greco is nowhere the same h2h force as Julio Diaz (who recently got robbed in a draw with Porter, for which he was compensated with his recent Amir Khan date)

 

Round 3

Lo Greco is hanging onto Porter, right arm clasped behind his neck to stem the flow of quick pot shots. Lo Greco is looking for a big left hook up top but lacks the speed or timing to pull the trigger at the right time. Porter is ducking in and hitting the body, then straightening with 1-2s to the face. Lo Greco paws a jab to the body and clinches when Porter darts in.

Round 4

Lo Greco scores with a left hook early, as he did in the 1st. Lo Greco keeps looping in lefts and rights up high, praying to land from outside. Porter ducks and then swoops in, slicing at Lo Greco's body. Straight rights by Porter, tossing them in from angles as he dances around him on bent knees to stay under any left hooks Lo Greco might think to wind up as traps. A few straight rights by Lo Greco, firing at the same time as Porter but much slower and barely landing. Nice body work by Porter.

This is the most impressive performance from Shawn Porter in quite some time, but a lot of that is to do with how limited Lo Greco is. (really a step down from both Alfonso Gomez and Julio Diaz)

This is kind of reminding me of Austin Trout vs. Frank LoPorto a bit.
