Round 1

Rodriguez is jabbing and circling to his left, shaking his right glove out in a short spinning motion. Castaneda moves in a claps a right down on Rodriguez's shoulder falling into a clinch. Rodriguez moves in and out, setting his feet and jabbing. Hard clubbing right past a jab by Rodriguez as Castaneda ducks in close, and Castaneda goes down. Jabs by Rodriguez. BIG double left hook to the face by Rodriguez. Castaneda stands up to the attack well but scrambles to find safety on the outside after clearing the cobwebs. Big combos by Rodriguez coming forward, just short with left hooks leading in followed by right hands.

Round 2

Rodriguez is jabbing and bobbing his upper body to and fro, catching the odd up-jab from Castaneda across his raised underarm. Double and triple jabs by Rodriguez, mostly thrown from too far out but keeping Castaneda quiet. Rodriguez is happy to waste ten jabs to land one in a minute, as long as Castaneda is kept submissive throwing four and landing none. Right hand whipped over the top by Rodriguez, caught on the arm. Castaneda leaps in with a left hook, blocked. He makes the most of it and ties up whilst in there.

Round 3

Rodriguez is putting in jabs and overhands to the head. Castaneda is wobbled. Rodriguez smells blood and moves in for the kill. 1-2-3, finishing with the left hook downstairs. Castaneda is rocked, keeling over. Another shot puts him down. Castaneda beats the count but Rodriguez is waiting. BIG left hook, missing but cuffing the scalp of Castaneda hard with the crook of Rodriguez's muscular arm when they slam together, momentarily smothering Rodriguez. More ferocious hooks by Rodriguez, swinging both fists in hard, overwhelming Castaneda and putting him down once more.

He improves to 21-2-3 (15), with both losses and the draws coming early in his career against decent fighters.

He is on a 13-0 (11) streak going back three years.

 

Felix Verdejo vs. Corben Page, 6 rounds @ lightweight

Round 1

Quick jabs by Verdejo, moving left. Page jukes and jives to either side, looking for angles to chuck in a 1-2 under Verdejo's guard. Quick straight blasts up top by Verdejo, throwing multiples and stopping Page in his tracks. Verdejo slides both feet back to make Page miss a high-arcing left hook, then pops in a counter straight combo. Page floats a high jab, picked off in the air by Verdejo with a slap down of his palm. Quick 1-2 by Verdejo. Lead uppercut by Verdejo, darting out before Page can rally with his own pair of uppercuts from his tight guard leaning forward with his legs rooted. A pair of hard rights by Verdejo. Page tries holding Verdejo off with the jab.

Round 2

Verdejo is moving left, making Page miss the jab either wide or several inches out in front of his sternum as he fades on a cushion of air. Verdejo is popping in with pot shot jabs and covering up as he withdraws at various angles. Page starts to double up on hard left hooks coming forward, not discouraged by Verdejo blocking them as he looks to bash at Verdejo's arms perhaps in hopes of wearing them down. HARD left hook by Verdejo punctuating a combination while bowed over to slip a straightaway Page triple-jabbing attack. Verdejo lands a flush 1-2, rocking Page's whole head around. Page steps in with a jab and overhand right, missing as Verdejo flashes his arms out in the way to deflect them and eating another counter 1-2.

Round 3

Verdejo is ripping Page with overhand rights early, starting faster than usual. Throwaway jabs by Verdejo, distracting Page before dropping the hard right in from above. Page sneers at him, gum shield sticking halfway out, tilting his upper body slightly to one side while poking a jab into Verdejo's belly. Page stays close, unafraid of Verdejo's power despite having felt a bunch of it over the first minute. A few exchanges of hooks as they step around each other. Verdejo puts an entire 1-2-3 together and drops Page in a heap. He beats the count but is rattled. Stiff jab by Verdejo snaps head back. Hard rights cross downstairs by Verdejo. Page jabs inside, countered by another stunning piston jab on the beak.

Round 4

Verdejo is on the attack. Body shots. Crisp face jabs. Verdejo is bouncing round very lightly on his toes. Page reaches in with a right, countered by a rapid double hook. Verdejo jabs the body. Page is backed up a step. Page dives in, jabbing at chest level and is driven away by a hard right hand from Verdejo doubled up to neck and abdomen. More quick combos by Verdejo as Page flees. HARD jab to the face, rocking Page badly. Left hook to the body by Verdejo. It's waved off with Page still on his feet.

The kid still looks great and has lots of upside. There could still be flaws waiting to be exposed, however. (whereas a guy like Rodriguez may have less natural talent but has been tested more, and recently begun stepping his level of competition back up after crushing nine cans in a row in 2011 to pad up his W column :scaredas: - and so rightfully headlined over his countryman last night, even though Verdejo could wind up the next P.R. star while Rodriguez has probably hit the ceiling...and might ultimately finish his career on Verdejo undercards)

He seems very comfortable on camera, easy smile and no problems talking himself up but doesn't come across as too cocky.

He could definitely be a star if he delivers on the promise of his in-ring abilities without revealing some Achilles heel.
