Hate to say it, but we're going to see Mayweather vs. Alexander in September

Alexander is coming off an impressive win! Alexander is also a young hungry lion and a champion. Alexander is Floyd's biggest threat! Purdy > Trout....Alexander is great. 1 million buys baby!

 

Nope, Mayweather vs. Alexander will not be happening in September. First off, Devon hurt his hand and may not be a available for September. Second, Alexander has no real buzz right now. Third, why would you have Mayweather vs a guy who isn't a big name or a Hispanic on Mexican Independence Day? Fourth, Alexander vs Khan has been ear marked by GBP for December.

On a side note, has any fighter ever received so much grief for fighting in a potential unification bout like Mayweather has with Alexander? As someone already pointed out, his last 4 WW fights would be against the reigning WBA, WBC, WBC interim, and IBF champs even if he did decide to fight Alexander next. Somehow, that's not good enough. Anyway, my money is still on Mayweather vs Alvarez for September. The Maidana/Lopez winner is the dark horse.

 

Alvarez @ 154 is a tougher fight. Alexander has the better resume.

 

If he beats Canelo and Alexander in that order back 2 back I'd be impressed. Bradley fight may not happen because Bob.

Will do some buys but would be Mayweather's lowest buys in years.

Floyd/Broner all access shows would be hilarious but as far as the fight I think Broner considers them too close to actually fight each other.

If he's really "Money Mayweather" Canelo is the obvious pick. Even just from a credible standpoint as he just beat Guerrero time for a move in the right direction.

Thurman imho should be his last fight.

Broner vs Maidana if he wins would be interesting. Would love to see Alexander-Khan and think its set in stone at this point for Dec.

Yep I'd go with that and people forget that. Alexander period has one of if not the best resumes at his age. Not a bad fight but Alvarez is a better selling opponent.

 

This will be far more boring than Guerrero fight.

I think Alexander needs one more win to deserve a fight, because I have him losing to Matthysse - I just did a scorecard on classic for it.

 

I would not be surprised at all with either Alexander or Matthysse. I do think he fights Canelo at 154 next.


As a black guy, I'd be very happy to see Devon get a chance to grab the torch, but I know many others wouldn't like it.

 

Better him than Khan.

 

Again, I don't think anyone is calling Alexander BS fight or a cherrypick at all, but stylistically and the amount of buzz he has still after being in the game for awhile would do horrible numbers i believe. Of course he would deserve credit just like he does for outclassing Guerrero but I bellieve Showtime wants a little better showing on PPV this time around. I believe he'd take the Canelo fight but Caenlo might see his limited options especially against hispanic opposition and price himself out.

 

I think Golden Boy have it pretty good at the moment with potential opponents for Mayweather, Canelo will be next and they can put Alexander against Khan and Garcia vs Matthysse to push the winners as high profile opponents for next year.

 

Alexander is a great fight, Alexander knows how to box. Even though Mayweather is much better it would interesting to see how Alexander fares. People are haters it's a much better fight than Guerrero without a doubt.

 

I disagree and entirely. Alexander is like Khan : In love with his speed, in love with his combinations, etc. But he has poor punch selection and accuracy, as well as a low ring IQ. Top it off with the fact I doubt he has any power to bother Mayweather at all and I don't see anything interesting in that fight.

 

If true it will be lucky to sell 500k PPV's. Not sure how Showtime would allow that it would lose money like the Guerrero fight did. They pretty much have to have Mayweather-Alvarez next as it would do 1.6-1.8 mil PPV's and generate revenue.

 

I'm probably in the minority who thinks Alexander has the potential to at least be competitive with Mayweather. At least he has some speed and skill, unlike the tailor-made Guerrero.

But from a marketability perspective, Alexander will probably attract even less attention and PPV buys than Guerrero did. And two dull PPV events back-to-back would be absolutely devastating for Showtime.

Alexander got his ****ing ears boxed off by kotelinik, mattyhsse, and bradley...three fights in a row. And quit againt bradley.

His only win is against a WW version of maidana....one-two-grab and hold- repeat.

Alvarez's one win over trout is better than devon's whole career.

 

Yup. Mayweather vs Alexander will be next. I don't think it will be a hit at in terms of sales and revenues.'
