Do people realize that Floyd's prime weight is 130-135?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by LeonardEllerbe, May 19, 2013.

  1. I read all kinds of **** regarding Floyd vs Tommy Hearns or Ray Leonard or Ray Robinson. Robinson was 5'11 and had a big 147-160 frame. Hearns was a freakin LHW pretending to be a WelterWeight. Floyd have no business at 154 or 160. It's a treat he moved up to 147 even.

It's impossible to pretend to be a WW for 30+ pro fights. He should have been getting KTFO from left to right, he'd be to weak on fight nights. If you can make the full limit of a weight class, then that is where you belong.

Floyd coming in at 150-151 in his 154 weigh in's make him a pretend 154 pounder.

Floyd is maybe the only fighter in his era that walks around his fight weight for his entire career. Sadly, something he doesnt get credited for.

Not really, there are Froch, Rigondeaux, guys that keep themselves fit and don't dehydrate to make weight. Paul Williams was also remarkably light despite being so tall. There are many boxers who could perhaps make the weight easily, but gain weight to gain a competitive advantage/prevent being pushed over by a heavier guy. Pacquiao basically had to eat up to fight at 147 and had to eat even more when he faced Margarito.

Also, while Floyd now is fighting at near his walking weight, it wasn't always the case. At 130-135 Floyd was killing himself at times to make weight. I believe he's grown into a natural 140 pounder for today's standards. (that imply +8-10 pounds gained post weigh in)

Is Manny Pacquiao's prime weight 112?

If what you say is true, Floyd should have fought Ricky Hatton at 140 and fought Juan Manuel Marquez at 135.

And now he should fight Lucas Matthysse at 140.

No - he looked weaker and could be pushed around at 130-135. IMO, he was better and stronger once he moved up to 140, especially in the Gatti fight.

Yes, we all saw how easily he made that catchweight against Marquez.

    Oh wait... :nut

I think you guys are missing the TS point. Floyd constantly gets compared to the great WW of the past (SRL, Tommy Hearns and SRR) who all started at or around 147. while Mayweather (and Pac) started out at much lighter weights and it is not really a fair comparison

Floyd's size and build are fine for a WW, he isn't a huge WW by any means but he isn't an undersized one either.

Robinson started his career at 135, Leonard around 140, and that was without the benefit of day-before-fight weigh-ins.

Then again, maybe the TS thinks Robinson's prime weight was 135. :nut

Yes he is. Floyd weighs 150 on fight night. Compare that to Ortiz, Mosley, Berto, who weigh between 164-168 on fight. Even guerrero was making fun of Floyd for being small which speaks volumes.
