Yeah 'don't like don't watch' is fine if you have wall to wall boxing but as there are limited dates it is taking up possible world or British title fights I'm not against prizefighter and its been a success but in my opinion has gone Stale
I think the thing with Prizefighter is that it only really works when it's gimmicked. For me, in an attempt to revive the brand, I would think about increasing the gimmickry of it. I've seen enough Heavyweight prizefighters full of nobodies, so make them full of interesting people. A Prizefighter which featured Audley Harrison, Kimbo Slice, Butterbean, Tye Fields, Ian Lewison, Monte Barrett, Vinny Maddalone and Mike Perez would be far more interesting to me watching them fight 3x3 than seeing more cultured fighters with actual careers on the line fighting. There is something more appealing to me watching a freak show over one night than seeing people like Anthony Crolla, Derry Matthews, Gary Sykes etc give diluted performances of themselves just to win a bit of money. The other option, and the one I think would make the best bit of television, would be the long talked about journeyman Prizefighter.
I think opening it up to some other countries like the International Heavys is something to keep it going a bit longer other than that I don't know what they can do as the format has had any revamp possible already,different venues,cash bonuses,prizefighter prospects etc
Prizefighter is great, last night's was crap. Worst one I've seen, but Cruiser division is poor anyway. Lesson Learned, hopefully. Would like to see a Fly/Super-flyweight Prizefighter, some good domestic fighters and will entice bigger names because of the money.
I'd still rather watch it any day over the 'Name Fighter vs TBA' type cards. The best ones are when there is a mix between young up and coming fighters and a couple of over the hill names. Journeyman prizefighter also needs to happen.
Has there ever been a Bantam or Feather prizefighter ? Can't remember if there has, a Bantam one is needed that division is loaded
I thought last nights card had some potential but the first round of fights were incredibly bad, especially the McPhilbin one. That was an atrocious bout but on paper, I thought it looked like it could have been really entertaining. It's a shame it didn't end up that way though. The lack of talent in the British cruiserweight scene is shockingly bad. As long as those with money want Prizefighter, we'll continue to get it. Sky asked for more events, BetFair sponsor it heavily and it's showed in quite a few countries around the world, unlike your average British show. Ratings for Prizefighter events are a lot higher than they'd be if you had the same fighters all in full length bouts, so whilst I can understand people disliking it, as long as it attracts casual fans, it won't go anywhere. The last international heavyweight one got 141,000 viewers, the light middleweight one got 101,000 viewers, the last light welter show they did had 189,000 viewers. These are good numbers for boxing.
Boxing on sky is rubbish at the moment. They have a big fight coming up but they are going to charge extra for that. Nice reward for their subscribers that. Im sick to death with the robbing *******s. People were saying going exclusively with matchroom would be good,well it hasn't been so far. If prize fighter is the best they can offer for my monthly fee im going to cancel.
