What will this Povetkin fight do for Wladimir Klitschkos legacy?

If Wlad wins, will it enhance his legacy, his resume? Where would you rate him?

 

It will seal it. Short of fighting his brother, he has done all he can do. An active champion, disciplined and a gentleman. Also so dominant ranked fighters are refusing a title shot.

He lacks a rival and true competition. More than anything, this will hurt his standing. Too few epic, health-deteriorating fights.

He is top ten for me.

From 2006-today Chagaev, Povetkin and briefly Haye were regarded as the #3 HW behind the Klychko's so getting a win against the long time next best HW is obviously good for the legacy. If he follows that up with some wins against the new crop of HW contenders like Pulev, Fury and whoever else emerges to the top in the next two years it will do alot for his already impressive accomplishments.

It can't be considered a win over a truly "great" opponent. But beating a fellow title holder and one who in this case also happens to be undefeated, is always a plus. That said, it will give him some points.

 

I don't think it will add a whole lot new to his legacy. Povetkin will just be another solid, decent titleholder, of which Wlad has already beaten several - i.e.: Byrd, Chagaev, Haye. If fact, I think the only way this fight might alter his legacy is if he loses.

At this point, I think the only thing that would truly enhance Wlad's legacy is if he beat his brother.

 

It'd be quality but wouldn't make a drastic change I don't think.

Wlad has enough on his resume already.

 

It would put him above Louis.

 

The win itself isn't important per se, but the 'this is my division' statement is.

Especially if it keeps happening. Wlad should be top 10 when all is said and done.

I will say it now. I think Povetkin has a better chance in this one than many are giving him. He's crafty and carries enough pop to do the job. His whole strategy of waiting till Waldo gets old may just work for him.

 

I've never been massively impressed by Povetkin, but there's no doubt that he's got a decent resume and is (just about) undefeated.

At this stage I think Wlad most improves his legacy by doing what he's already been doing; taking on the best available and beating them in dominant fashion, and continuing to do so for as long as possible. There aren't really going to be any "signature" wins that I can see.

 

The question is what will Wladimir Klitschko do for Povektin's legacy.
Wlad is already looking for a way out.
He cant beat Povektin with a neutral ref and his team know it.
